Some of the MMM members stayed on to visit more of Israel but the majority are back. However, restaurateurs and shopkeepers in Israel were as happy as Meier Swed, whose little shop at 10 Ben Yehuda Street in Jerusalem was a popular souvenir stop for many Mission-ites. It had been a slightly gruel- ing but very fruitful and enlightening 10-day mission for everyone who went .. . Those like me visiting Israel for the first time, were in awe at the beauty, ingenious ways of the Israeli people and their progress-minded ideals . . . Any test of stamina and en- durance was far exceeded by the power that is Israel and what it had gone through to be the wonderful country it is today . . . something of which every Jew in the world can be proud . . . Being in a car acci- dent and recovering from 17 fractures didn't stop Bunnie Leach, who walked with the aid of a cane . . . or Velma Weil who had fallen and trekked with a forearm and hand cane after a hip replace- ment operation . . . Bunnie and Bob Leach and Velma and Bill Weil kept up with everyone. Bunnie was also visited in their room by a doctor who gave her a prescription to reduce swelling . . . She came to breakfast and hadn't had the script filled yet . . . "Don't worry," said Joel Shapiro, "my wife is a walking drugstore. She'll have one" . . . Laurie came down and, sure enough, had a pill for Bunnie. Ruth Ziporin at Shabbat dinner selected fresh fruit for dessert and got just that (ap- ple and orange) instead of the fruit cup she expected . . . Ruth and Ery finally did get a fresh fruit cup at LaTerrasee Restaurant . . . While on the bus leaving Givat Washing- ton Youth Aliyah Village, peo- ple told of their experience at the school . . .
