The Sisterhood and Men's
Club of Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue will present a two-part
series titled "From Our
Members With Love" May 11
and 17.
At 12:30 p.m. May 11,
Trudy Weiss and Mike Judi-
kovik will discuss "Czecho-
slovakia Revisited." Mr.
Judikovik will share his
recollections of life before and
during World War II, while
Mrs. Weiss will relate the per-
sonal experiences of the Weiss
family's recent multi-genera-
tional trip to explore their
Czechoslovakian roots. Re-
freshments will be served.
There is no charge.
Cantor Howard Glantz will
offer the history and laws of
tefillin in "Let's Wrap" at a
6:30 p.m. dinner program
May 17. Cantor Glantz will
also discuss the application
and use of tefillin and
other prayer garments
today. There is a fee.

Youths Win
Essay Awards

An event took place recently
celebrating the 45th anniver-
sary of the establishment of
the State of Israel at Young
Israel of Oak-Woods.
Two Louis A. Horowitz
Memorial Youth Fund
Awards were made. Twenty-
three contestants wrote
essays on one of three ques-
tions prepared by the Na-
tional Council of Young Israel
Youth Department Commit-
tee, who received the essays
and selected the scholarship
winners.
Jonathon Kantor, 16, in
grade 12 from Windsor, On-
tario, and a graduating stu-
dent of Akiva Hebrew Day
School, was the winner of the
$1,000 scholarship which will
further his study next year in
Israel.
Avi Ebenstein won a $500
award. A ninth grader at
Akiva, Avi will compete
again next year.
