Plan Events

Richard Berg, master story-
teller, will perform 1 p.m.
May 11 at the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Jewish Community
Center. Space may be reserv-
ed at the JPM box office.
There is no charge.
The Dor L'Dor program will
continue with sixth grade
students from Hillel Day
School joining JPM seniors
1:30 p.m. May 14 for a concert
at Borman Hall. Transporta-
tion from the Jimmy Prentis
Morris building is available.
Line Dancing is coming to
the Center 1 p.m. June 1 and
15. Jack Leve will demon-
strate the latest moves.
Tickets may be reserved at
the JPM Box office.
New participants are al-
ways welcome at the follow-
ing groups:
• Wednesday Friendship
Group meets weekly at 10:30
a.m. for discussion.
• Center Mens' Forum
meets Thursdays at 10:30
a.m.
• Bible study meets Wed-
nesdays at 11 a.m.
• Ben Gurion Men's Club

an afternoon of music when
soloists from the Michigan
Opera Theatre perform selec-
tions by Andrew Lloyd Weber
and other composers 12:45
p.m. May 17. There is a
charge.
Bingo is back 1 p.m. May 18
at Maple-Drake. There is a
charge for refreshments.
Mame Loshen, a Yiddish
discussion group, will meet 1
p.m. May 10 and May 24 at
Maple-Drake. You need not be
a Yiddish "expert." There is a
charge for non-members.

MSU Honors
Student Writers

The Michigan State Univer-
sity School of Journalism
recently recognized several
Detroit area students for
their journalistic accomplish-
ments.
Jeff Sklar was awarded the
first ever Donald Caldwell
Memorial Scholarship. Amy
Finkelstein, Kristen Glaser
and Sarah Markus were in-
ducted into Kappa Thu Alpha,
the journalism honor society.

Beth Achim
Hosts Rabbi

The Cultural Commission of
Congregation Beth Achim in
conjunction with the United
Synagogue of Conservative
Judaism will host a Shabbat
lunch May 15 following ser-
vices at the synagogue. Rabbi
Moshe Edelman will be the
speaker. His topic will be
"The story behind the
Shema."
Rabbi Edelman, who is the
director of leadership devel-
opment for the United
Synagogue of Conservative
Judaism and serves as the
associate director of regional
and extension activities, has
been instrumental in expan-
ding synagogue membership
and involvement through in-
novative programs. Rabbi
Edelman has been a long
time member of the United
Synagogue Commission on
Jewish Education, the Na-
tional Youth Commission, the
KOACH Committee and the
Solomon Schechter Day
School Association.
There is a charge for the
lunch. Tickets are available
in the synagogue office until
May 10. Babysitting services
are available with advance
reservations. For information,
call the synagogue office,

items is noon Thursday,
eight days prior to issue
date. The deadline for
birth announcements is 10
a.m. Monday, four days
prior to issue date; out-of-
town obituaries, 10 a.m.
Tuesday, three days prior
to issue date.
