Restaurant Ms. Avadenka could hard- ly find information about this female architect. "She is a mystery, and this is my way of paying tribute to her," she said. Ms. Colter built and designed struc- tures throughout the southwest United States at the turn of the century and worked with the Hopi In- dians. Her buildings were designed to look and feel like the adobe designs of the era. The book on M.E.J. Colter is an accordion-fold format in the shape of an adobe house and contains cotton and straw from New Mexico. Three chapters of text are sewn into the folds of the book. The paper was hand made by Kathryn Clark and designed by Ms. Avadenka. The University of Nevada and the Univer- sity of Michigan have pur- chased the book, which sells for $300. Copies of The Un- common Perspective of M.E.J. Colter are available through Land Marks Press in Huntington Woods. South Lyon High School will put on Fiddler on the Roof in early May, and Dr. Kaplan has been explaining mezuzot, prayer shawls and other Jewish customs to young actors. "One of may patient's daughters is in the play," the doctor said, "and I've been asked a lot of questions. I feel like I'm the only rabbi out here now." South Lyon is in the southwest corner of Oakland County, south of Kensington Metro Park.
