Women's Division Elections In June Penny Blumenstein Penny Blumenstein has, been nominated as presi- dent of the Jewish Federation of Women's Division, whose 47th annu- al meeting will take place, 11 a.m. June 8 at, Congregation Shaarey Zedek. The program will include a presentation by Julia Koschitsky, chairperson of Karen Hayesod, the equiv- alent of the United Jewish Appeal outside the United . States. The election and instal- lation of officers and board members will take place. Women's Division mem-. bers also will vote on the adoption of amendments to the by-laws. Nominees for vice presi- dents include Barbara Cook, Jan Hauser, Linda Z. Klein, Sheri Schiff and Charlotte Tessler. Gloria Cohen has been nominated for another term as record- ing secretary and Ellie Slovis for an additional term as corresponding sec- retary. Nominated as designees to Federation's board of governors are Sandra Schwartz and Edie Slotkin. Nominated to the board of directors for a second three-year term are Reva Kogan, Maida Portnoy, Joyce Sherman, Charlotte Tessler and Barbara Tukel. Ellen Bean, Nancy Glass, Jan Hauser, Caren Landau-Levine, Terran Leemis, Evelyn Levine, Pat . . N Milner, Susan Pappas, Selma Schwartz and Edie Slotkin are nominated to the board for a first three- year term. Nominated to the Advisory Service Council for an additional three- year term are Ruth Broder, Fayga Dombey, Ethel Frank, Joan Goldrath, Marion Handleman, Belle Kukes, Marjorie Kurz- mann, Beverly Peterman, Blanche Pollack, Evelyn Silverman and Beryl Winkelman. Bernice Gershenson, Marian Kantor, Agnes Klein, Geri Lester and Sherri Lumberg were nom- inated to the Advisory Service Council for a first three-year term. Seminar Set On Adoption Temple Israel will host, "Exploring Adoption," a seminar for prospective adoptive Jewish parents, 7- 9 p.m. May 4 at the temple. The program will provide an overview of the adoption process, exploring home study and family assess- ment procedures, interac- tions with agencies, courts, and special issues facing the Jewish family. Seminar leaders are Linda Yellin, an adult adoptee, and Elissa Rosenfeld, an adoptive par- ent. Both Ms. Yellin and Ms. Rosenfeld have profes- sional experience working with families and individu- als involved in the adoption process. For information, call the temple, 661-5700. There is no charge. Bais Chabad Center Honors M. Goodman Martin Goodman Bais Chabad Torah Center will have its annual raffle dinner May, 1,7 at the Maple-Diake jeWish Com- munity Center. This year's honoree is Martin Goodman. His con- tributions towards the development of the Torah Center include presidency and present service on the faculty of the center's Adult Study Program. A musician, composer and singer, he also is an enter- tainer at many of the Torah Center's functions. Mr. Goodman is one of the founders and support- ers of F.R.E.E. (Friends of Refugees of Eastern Eur- ope) of the Chabad-Lub- avitch organization, as well as a faculty member of F.R.E.E.'s High School Division. He is also the founder of Chabad-on-the- Lake in West Bloomfield. The speaker for the event will be Rabbi Shlorno Bluming, lecturer and spir- itual leader of Mt. Kisco (N.Y.) Hebrew Congre- gation. Israeli Events Surround The Walk Eric Fingerhut An Israel street fair will be held May 16 at the Maple-Drake Jewish Com munity Center following the Walk for Israel. Israeli-made gifts, jew- elry and religious items will be displayed and available for purchase at the Jewish Center Gift Shop. Cosmetics and facial care products from Israel also will be sold. Copies of Israeli magazines and newspapers will be dis- tributed free of charge. During the street fair, Jewish Experiences For Families will' present a mini-mega Israel mission with young family pro- gramming on Israel, a pet- ting zoo, craft booths, Israeli dancing and cook- ing projects. Musicians and dancers will provide entertainment throughout the afternoon. Travel to Israel for adults will be the focus of an exhibit by the Israel Government Tourist Of- fice. The Israel Desk of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit will offer information about Israel travel and study programs for teens and college students. After the Walk, Con- gressman Eric Fingerhut, D-Ohio, will speak on "U.S.-Israel Relations." Mr. Fingerhut serves on several House committees, among them: Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs; Foreign Affairs and Science, Space and Technology. He also is co- chairman of the New Members Task Force to Reform the Operations of Congress. The Walk for Israel will leave from Maple-Drake at 11:30 a.m. Registration is at 10:30 a.m. Pre-regis- tration for the Walk is requested. Bus trans- portation from the Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish Center and the United Hebrew Schools Building in Southfield will be avail- able at a charge. That evening at 5:30, teens will celebrate Israel Independence Day at a mystery movie night, sponsored by the Feder- ation Youth Campaign at the AMC Americana West Theater.
