As executive director of
Plays for Living, a national,
non-profit theater company
that creates half-hour enact-
ments of family and commu-
nity issues, she helped
develop projects for the par-
ent company, also based in
New York.
After moving to Boston,
she started teaching and es-
tablished a small studio, Up-
stage Unlimited.
With her move to Michi-
gan, she was able to raise
funds to produce The Colored
Museum, a satire exploring
the Afro-American experi-
ence. Her completion of that
at the University gave her
time for the JET production.
"I'm Jewish, but I'm an
East Coast Jew," said Ms.
Nessen, who received her
training and all her work ex-
perience on the East Coast.
"I feel my style is welcome,
and I can talk like myself. It
helps the process because any
time you're comfortable, it al-
lows you to work.
"There has been a feeling
of family and a feeling of
warmth, and I think this is
going to take the play a
tremendous distance."
"Grown Ups" will be per-
formed Wednesdays, Thurs-
days, Saturdays and Sun-
days, April 21-May 16, at the
Jewish Community Center in
West Bloomfield. The May 12
performance will be signed for
the hearing impaired. For

The Lyric Chamber Ensem-
ble will wind up its Gem
Theatre Brunch series with
"April in Paris," a morning
concert of French music,
10:45 a.m. April 25. The con-
tinental brunch will be fol-

a.m. Vocalist Barbara Bred-
ius will perform songs made
popular by Edith Piaf. Gui-
tarist Michael Stockdale,
flutist Beth Bowers, pianist
Fedora Horowitz, double
bassist Gregory Powell and
percussionist Dave Taylor will
perform.
