informant for the FBI. When
the FBI learned that Mr.
Bullock was also working for
the South African govern-
ment, it began to investigate
and ultimately discovered
Mr. Bullock's ADL connec-
tion.
The ADL has denied that
it had any direct links to the
South African government.
The search of the ADL's of-
fice in Los Angeles last week
lasted four to five hours,
"half of the time spent on
photocopying documents,"
according to one employee.
In an unusual jurisdic-
tional procedure, the search
was conducted by police from
San Francisco, since the Los
Angeles police had refused

earlier to cooperate in the
investigation.
Agents of the California
Franchise Tax Board and
the San Francisco District
Attorney's Office also par-
ticipated.

The ADL documents,
primarily on financial tran-
sactions, confiscated in San
Francisco and Los Angeles
were described as a "ton of
material" by the district at-
torney's office, requiring an
extensive period of time to
examine.

At least a month will be
needed before any charges
are filed, during which time
additional searches may be
necessary, Mr. Smith said.

Sydney, Australia (JTA) —
British Holocaust- denier
David Irving, refused entry
to Australia following strong
protests by the Jewish com-
munity, has said he will not
only successfully overcome
an Australian ban but will
add New Zealand to his tour
schedule.
Speaking on New Zealand
national radio, Mr. Irving
said, "I will be very surpris-
ed if the Jewish community
of New Zealand is foolish
enough to try to come out
and get me banned" there.
In an interview with an-
other station, Radio Pacific,
Mr. Irving said he intends
"to follow through with a
number of libel suits"
against Australian Jews
who opposed his visit.
Wendy Ross, the president
of the New Zealand Jewish
Council, emphasized the
community's opposition to a
visit by Mr. Irving.
Ms. Ross told the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency that Mr.
Irving's actions and associa-
tions with extremists show
he is "not the sort of visitor
New Zealand wants or
needs."
Mr. Irving, who is
challenging the Australian
ban, had a minor victory this
week when the federal court
refused a government re-
quest to dismiss the case, set
to be heard April 30.
But Australia's new im-
migration minister, Nick
Bolkus, denied Mr. Irving's
claim that he "won" a deci-
sion to see internal docu-
ments relating to his case.
Mr. Bolkus said this is nor-
mal procedure in immigra-
tion cases.
Mr. Irving's legal counsel

has argued that the
Australian government's
refusal to grant him a visa
should be overturned be-
cause the decision was
allegedly made on the basis
of false information provided
by his opponents.
Mr. Irving, whose
Australian tour was due to
begin on March 17, claimed
he was being kept out of the
country because of his con-
troversial views.
He suffered a setback in
court when a letter from
now- retired federal minister
for immigration, Gerry
Hand, was offered in
evidence.
The letter said that "your

books are freely available in
Australia to those who may
be interested in your opi-
nions."
In addition, said Mr. Hand,
"the fact that persons may
be affronted by your opi-
nions is not relevant.
"What is of concern is the
effect that your presence in
Australia will have within
the community."
Mr. Irving's lawyers will
need to prove that the im-
migration minister's conclu-
sion was unreasonable or
outside his power.
