Rabbi Arthur Lelyveld, sen-
ior rabbi emeritus of the Fair-
mount Temple in Cleveland,
Ohio, will be the 1993 Samuel
H. Hamburger scholar-in-
residence at Temple Emanu-
El. Rabbi Lelyveld will speak
at Shabbat evening services
8:15 April 16. His topic will
be "The Quest for God." He
also will speak at Shabbat
morning services 10:30 a.m.
April 17. His topic will be
"Paradox: How We Handle
Contradictions."
Rabbi Lelyveld is _a past
president of the Central Con-
ference of American Rabbis
and author of Atheism is
Dead, a Jewish response to
contemporary radical theol-
ogy. Since 1980, he has been
the Bernard Rich Hollander
lecturer in Jewish thought at
John Carroll University

Shabbat Tunes

"Shabbat Melodies with Can-

and May 1 at the synagogue.

mission will host a scholar in
residence weekend April
16-17. This year's speaker,
Rabbi Eliezer Diamond, will
discuss "The Jewish Family
in Traditional Jewish
Sources."
BAHM will host an Oneg
Shabbat following services
April 16; Rabbi Diamond will
explore "Parents and Chil-
dren: A Jewish View of Their
Rights and Responsibilities."
On April 17, there will be a
Shabbat luncheon; Rabbi Dia-
mond will speak on "What
Makes a Good Marriage? A
Look at Four Biblical
Models." This luncheon is
open to the public. Also on
April 17, Rabbi Diamond will
join the congregation and
guests for Se'udah Shlishit to
speak on "The Adult Child/
Parent: Advice from Jewish
Tradition to the Sandwich
Generation." There will be no
charge and babysitting will
be available if reservations
are made.
