it," Mr. Kluzler said. "I'd
like to meet a Jewish
woman."
Andrea Polk from
Farmington Hills also
desired a Jewish mate.
Spending almost a year
in Israel upon graduation
from Western Michigan
University made it simple.
Returning to the United
States was the tough part.

Ms. Polk lived in Israel
for 10 months as a partici-
pant of Project Otzma — a
one-year program for col-
lege-age students. She had
returned home with other
visitors from Detroit when
the Gulf War broke out.
One month later she was
back in Israel, where she
met Shimon.
The participants of
Project Otzma attended a
conference with college-
age Israelis, discussing the
war. The two groups decid-
ed to meet again. Ms. Polk
met Shimon.
Ms. Polk and Shimon
spent almost six months
together. He was 25 years
old and a business and
economics major at Bar-
Ilan University.
Language, at the time,
was their greatest barrier.
"He spoke English and I
spoke Hebrew. We talked
primarily in English
though," Ms. Polk said.
That Ms. Polk was an
American was of no con-
cern to Shimon and his
family. However, Ms.
Polk's parents worried
their daughter might
decide to settle perma-
nently in Israel.
"My parents love Israel.
But I think it was tough
for them to imagine their
future grandchildren
growing up halfway across
the world in such a differ-
ent environment."
Ms. Polk has returned to
Israel to visit and Shimon
has spent time in the
United States. For now,
they go on with their lives
separately and speak to
each other frequently.
"I don't regret a minute
of it," Ms. Polk said. "I
never will. He got to see
his own country through
American eyes.
"I know he learned a lot
from me. And I learned to
see the country through an
Israeli's eyes — customs
and traditions that I might
not have noticed. ❑

Viscosupplementation is simply the injection of a lubricating
gel (Hyaluronan) directly into the joints (ankles, knees and
shoulders) and it works with long lasting results and no side
effects that non-steroidals (NSAIDS) can produce. Today
thousands of people in Canada, Europe, and Japan enjoy
the absence of pain, and regained use of their joints from
this new technology — and so can YOU!

"Why must I go on vacation to receive viscosupplementation?"

Currently the FDA is on vacation themselves and it could be
years and irreparable damage to your joints by the time this
technology winds its way through the miles of bureaucratic
red tape required for approval here in the United States.
