The Washtenaw County JCC
Outing Club, a group for
singles and marrieds —
twenty-something to thirty-
something — will attend
Leonard Bernstein's Trouble
in Tahiti, 8 p.m. April 15 at
Ann Arbor's Kerrytown Con-
cert House. The group will
meet for dinner 7 p.m. at
Zingerman's restaurant.
The Outing Club will enjoy
a dinner of Ethiopian food at
Ann Arbor's Blue Nile
Restaurant 6:30 p.m. April

The Washtenaw County
Jewish Community Center
will sponsor a four-week ses-
sion of ballroom dancing with
Tomas Chavez 5:30-6:15 p.m.
Sundays, April 25-May 16.

Magician's Apprentice I, a
magic workshop for young-
sters 5 to 6 years old, will be
offered at the Washtenaw
County JCC 4-5:30 p.m. April
23. Master magician Chris
Craig will teach participants
beginning magic tricks to per-
form for family and friends.

Spin into Spring, a crafts
workshop celebrating spring
for children 6 to 8 years old,
will be offered at the Ann Ar-
bor JCC 4:5:30 p.m. April 27.
Instructor Deborah Leff will
teach participants how to
make colorful mobiles. The
fee includes materials. Call

Pre-School Class
In Ann Arbor
Beginning in September
1993, the Washtenaw County
JCC Pre-school will offer a
new afternoon kindergarten
enrichment class open to
children who are enrolled in
morning kindergarten pro-
grams. The class will meet
noon-4 p.m. five afternoons
per week. Children can enroll
for three (Monday, Wednes-
day, Friday) or five after-
noons. Enrollment will be on
a yearly basis.
The kindergarten enrich-
ment class will include ex-
ploring literature, science,
arts and crafts, creative move-
ment, gym and playtime. It
\vill be taught by Jacqueline
Bree, a certified teacher with
a master's degree in reading.
Ms. Bree has a special in-
terest in multi-cultural
literature and has developed
literacy materials for both
pre-schoolers and kinder-
gartners.
Limited transportation will
be available from area
elementary schools. Extended
day child care for kinder-
garteners will be available
until 6 p.m. for an additional

CHAIM, Children of Holo-
caust-survivors Association in
Michigan has announced the
winners of its eighth annual
writing competition. Paro-
chial and public schools from
Oakland and Washtenaw
counties and 42 schools that
received the Holocaust cur-
riculum "Life Unworthy of
Life" as a gift from CHAIM
participated. The 154 essays
addressed the topic: "What is
important to know about the
Holocaust? Why is the study
of the Holocaust relevant to
students today?"
Winners were: first place,
Ellen M. Schwab from Groves
High School; second place,
Mark Eaton, West Bloomfield
High School; third place,
Angela White, Grand Rapids
Creston; honorable mentions,
Naomi Brenner, Ann Arbor
Pioneer; Melanie Zaremba,
Williamston High School;
Marilyn Teorey, Community
High School in Ann Arbor;
Jonathan Kroll and Brian
Katz, West Bloomfield High
School; and David O'Connor,
Tara Luscombe, Rachel
