Mrs. Appelman spoke
about the profound bond
that links Jewish women
throughout the generations.
"It is a tangle with Jewish
history from which we
cannot unentwine our-
selves.
She discussed the leader-
ship and influence of the ma-
triarchs Sarah and Rebecca,
and the concept of
motherhood among Jewish
women. It isn't only that
women want to provide the
best for their own children,
but see themselves as the
guardians of Jewish tradi-
tion for years to come. "We
have been mothering for the
future generations since the
day we were born," she said.
