The planes depart from
Detroit Metropolitan
Airport. The trip lasts 10
days, but some, like Sheldon
Lutz and his wife, Gail, will
stay longer.
The Lutzes have packed
already. For them, the
Mission holds special signif-
icance because they will cel-
ebrate their 40th wedding
anniversary by renewing
their vows in Jerusalem.
The members of
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek originally wed in
Detroit.
"Restating our vows in
the Jewish homeland gives
my wife and me an emotion-
al lift," said Mr. Lutz. "From
a Jewish standpoint, it's the
holiest place in the world for
me."
Marla Dorfman of
Franklin also has packed for
the trip, despite the fact
that she has just returned
home after wintering in
Florida.
The Holocaust survivor
considers Israel her second
home. Like Mr. Lutz, the
Mission holds meaning that
extends far beyond a typical
tourist's.
"I'll do anything that I
can do to show that De-
troiters care about Israel,"

The Jewish Community
Center will offer pre- and
post-natal classes for mothers
and moms-to-be. Pre-natal
classes are offered on Mon-
days and Wednesdays 10-11
a.m. and Tuesdays and
Thursdays 6-7 p.m. Post-natal
classes are Tuesdays and
Thursdays 11:45 -12:45 p.m.
All classes start the week of
April 19.
