Other Needs For
$250,000

INVITES YOU TO A SPECIAL SEMINAR ON
ESTATE PRESERVATION PLANNING

Your article of March 19 has
caused us, as contributors to
the Allied Jewish Campaign,
to rethink making any contri-
bution or supporting an orga-
nization that wastes funds
subsidizing vacations for peo-
ple regardless of their income
level, especially middle and up-
per income people...
We do not care what pot of
money the UJA subsidy comes
from. However, we feel that it
should not be wasted. A sur-
charge could have been added
to cover these additional ex-
penses...
There is enough need for
money and help in our com-
munity and in other parts of
the world not to waste the fi-
nancial resources that have
been accumulated, from what-
ever source, even special pri-
vate endowments.
It is a wonderful idea to
sponsor such a trip. However,
it should never be made at the
expense of other subsidized or-
ganizations within our com-
munity. There are many people
who desperately need our sup-
port.
Let us help those in need in-
stead of subsidizing a vacation
to Israel.

DESTRUCTION DESIGNED FOR THE BIG

Attention Holocaust survivors.
Do you remember when, af-
ter your liberation from the
Nazi death camps, you re-
turned to your hometown and
you soon realized that the
Christian population was even
more hostile toward the few re-
turning Jews than they were
prior to your deportation?
Do you remember that you
could no longer remain in Eu-
rope because of fear of perse-
cutions, outrages or pogroms
against the few returning
Jews?
Do you remember how lucky
you were that the U.S. Jewish
agencies or your relatives as-
sisted you financially and
morally to leave Europe's hell
behind and settle in the Unit-
ed States?
Do you know that our broth-
ers and sisters in the territories
of the former Soviet Union are
in the same position as you
were after liberation?
It is true that government
sponsored anti-Semitism in the
territories of the former Soviet
Union no longer exists. Unfor-
tunately, with religious free-
dom, individual anti-Semitism
intensifies. Our Jewish broth-

ers and sisters are exposed to
discrimination — even to
pogroms by the Christian pop-
ulation.
We received badly needed
assistance to leave Europe's
hell behind and settle in the
United States. Now it is our
moral obligation to assist our
brothers and sisters in the for-
mer Soviet Union who wish to
settle in Israel.
Without our assistance, the
State of Israel will not be in a
position, financially, to assist a
mass influx of Jews from the
former Soviet Union...

Matzah Sent
To Moscow

Moscow (JTA) — More than
28,000 pounds of kosher for
Pesach matzah was
distributed free of charge to
needy Jews in Moscow by
Lubavitcher rabbis the week
before Passover.
First priority was given to
the elderly and Holocaust
survivors, who were iden-
tified through lists provided
by local Jewish organiza-
tions.
The synagogue on Bron-
naya Street, a stone's throw
from the McDonald's in
downtown Moscow, was fill-
ed with stacks of 2- and 3-
kilogram packages of the
unleavened bread.
"It smells like matzah
everywhere," said one rabbi.
For those unable to come
to the synagogue, volunteers
delivered the matzah to
their homes. Rabbi Boruch
Cunin of Los Angeles
estimated that 10,000 Jew-
ish families would get mat-
zah.
A matzah volunteer at
that synagogue estimated
that more matzah was baked
and distributed in Moscow
this Passover than at any
time since the Russian Revo-
lution.
