New Works
On Display

O.K. Harris/David Klein
Gallery will display the new
work of artists Gabrielle Sen-
za and Carole Zak through
May 1. Ms. Senza's paintings
consist of industrial land-
scapes on distressed, recycled
materials. Ms. Zak juxtaposes
paint and aged printed paper
on canvas, in conjunction
with three-dimensional
objects.
Ms. Senza applies oil paint
to neglected, oxidized metal
plates and worn timber. The
artist begins with a surface
that has been scarred by time
and use, then transforms
these surfaces into land-
scapes. The images are heav-
ily industrial and are por-
trayed with a sense to the
materials, offering an ironic
feeling of serenity while tak-
ing a closer look at man made
beauty.
In Ms. Zak's first exhibition
with the gallery, she has
created a group of paintings
charged with visual contrasts.
Using various methods of col-
lage, the artist uses acrylic
paint and vintage prints and
text on canvas. The eye is
challenged by a two-dimen-
sional canvas having the
character of a three-dimen-
sional object. Images are
carefully chosen, for both
symbolic and aesthetic
reasons.
O.K. Harris/David Klein
Gallery is located at 430
North Woodward, Birming-
ham. The gallery hours are
Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-6
p.m., with extended hours to
8:30 p.m. on the first Thurs-
day of each month.

Detroit native, received her
Master of Fine Arts in pain-
ting from Wayne State
University. A recent recipient
of an Arts Foundation of
Michigan creative artist
grant, Ms. Branstner has ex-
hibited and lectured widely
throughout the state.
Ms. Branstner's landscapes
are real, yet surreal.
Lemberg Gallery is at 538
N. Woodward, Birmingham.
Gallery hours are Tuesday-
Friday, 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; and
