t's such a nice treat, and all too rare in
this world, when someone picks up the phone,
or puts pen to paper, to offer a compliment in-
stead of a complaint. Well, here at Style we've
been happily spoiled by just such positive re-
sponse, especially over our March/April is-
sue—the one with the dramatic photo of an
Alvin Ailey dancer on the cover. I take that to
mean most of you like the new mix of articles
and the look of the magazine. Thanks again for
the encouraging words. Please continue to tell
us what else you'd like to see in our pages.
Meanwhile, brace yourselves for a one-time
change in the look of your next Style. In keep-
ing with the lighter, breezier mood of the sea-
son, our special "Summer Pleasures" issue (a
guide to entertaining yourself and others) will
be published in a larger format, on premium
offset paper rather than the glossy stock you
are reading now. It gives our talented art direc-
tor a chance to try on his Rolling Stone hat and
create an even bolder graphic punch on our
pages. It also lowers our productio:i costs, for
savings we are happy to pass on to advertisers.
That special summer issue arrives in homes
the last week of May. Come back-to-school
time, we'll return to our glossy old selves again.
To usher in the warm weather, we've filled
this magazine with some light and bright read-
ing. Doreen Gordon's Japanese garden is really
special. And take a peek into the local homes
we've featured. Susan Winton Feinberg remod-
eled a Wallace Frost home for the second time.
Don Paul Young and Ed Born created a lake-
side jewel, while Arlene Cohen and Robbie
Segel added color to a condominium.
