are adding more body shaping to suits. There
are suits that promise to cinch an inch at the
waist, suits that hold the tummy or buttocks
with control panels, and suits that help hold
everything up with support inserts.
The real news maker is from Hot Coles, a
division of Cole of California, who developed
a beach-wear alternative to breast implants—
the inflatable top. "It builds up the bust, gives
you cleavage," notes Rock. Another conces-
sion to reality: More manufacturers of two-
piece suits are selling the tops and bottoms
as separates, allowing the buyer to get a bet-
ter fit at both ends.
Coverups are covering less as manufac-
turers turn to mesh and sheer fabrics. There
are other updates on the traditional robes,
oversize blouses, and sarong skirts. But this
season, some designers are offering tailored
blazers, pants and shorts that can go from
beach to bistro without a blink. The line be-
tween street wear and pool wear almost dis-
appears. f l

GARAGE SALES
Some of the best home accessories belong to
other people.
And, in some cases, they're for sale. Many
real finds are waiting for perusal and purchase
at nearby garage sales.
Shopping the garage sale circuit takes pa-
tience and persistence. And sometimes, its hard
to tell what's a treasure, and what's trash.
But, good things await those who rise to the
challenge. Following are some tips for finding
home accessories at garage sales:
• Get there early: Seasoned garage sale shop-
pers know the early bird always wins, and of-
tentimes show up before opening to wait in line.
• Carry cash: Garage sales don't take cred-
it cards, and usually check sales aren't allowed.
• Do your homework Search classified ads
and community bulletin boards for sales in your
area, then plot your strategy.
• Know what you want: If it's a footstool
you're after, resist the temptation to blow your
wad on a mediocre plant stand.
• Be prepared: Bring along fabric swatch-
es, paint chips, snapshots of the room you're
working on and anything else that will help you
determine if an item will work.
