T

wo Detroit College of
Law students, Lisa
Kirsch of Birm-
ingham and Mike
Quaine of Detroit, are mak-
ing a difference in the City of
Detroit. Last year they
founded "Hands on Detroit,"
a DCL student outreach pro-
gram to help Detroit's
homeless, hungry and elder-
ly.
"We feel there is a big
need in the community for
this program," said Ms.
Kirsch, who is also a clerk at
the 48th District Court in
Bloomfield Hills. "We've
served meals at soup kitch-
ens, planted trees and
cleared lots," she said.
The group held their first
fund-raiser on Feb. 16 at
Fishbone's Rhythm Kitchen
Cafe in Greektown. Some of
the supporters at the event
included: Dennis Archer,
Sharon McPhail, Judge
Edward and Beverly
Avadenka, Ethel and
Seymour Shapiro, Kaye
Weinberger, Carol Cook,
Ellen and David Kirsch,
Wendy Kirsch, Carolyn
Ruskin and Brian Siegel.
Their next big event will
be on April 3. "Put Hands on
Detroit" hopes to have 300
volunteers assisting other
civic organizations in
outreach projects
throughout the city.
Students, faculty, alumni,
and members of the corn-

munity are urged to par-
ticipate. For more informa-
tion, call DCL at 226-0100
and leave a message for Lisa
or Mike or speak to
Rebecca McGee.

HOCKEY CHAMPS

Jerod Lutz and David
Tigay of West Bloomfield
recently participated in the
Michigan Nationals Pee-
Wee AAA Tournament in
Quebec. This is an invita-

tional tournament and the
largest in the world for 13-
year-old hockey players. As
part of the team, they
received personalized
hockey cards.
