Music Month Concert
At Shaarey Zedek
A free concert in celebration
of Jewish Music Month will
take place 7:30 p.m. March
16 at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek. It will feature three
musicians in a program of
music by Israeli composers
and standard classics.
The musicians are Fedora
Horowitz, pianist; Yehudi
Hanani, cellist; and Eli
Eban, clarinetist.
Eban
formed throughout the
world, in his native Israel,
and with the Chicago
Symphony, Philadelphia
Orchestra, Baltimore Sym-
phony, St. Paul Chamber
Orchestra, Berlin Radio
Symphony and the Israel
Philharmonic.
Detroiter Fedora Horo-
witz established her reputa-
tion in. Romania and Israel
Hanani
Eli Eban was born in New
York and received his early
musical training in Israel.
He is a veteran of 13 sea-
sons with the Israel
Philharmonic Orchestra and
the son of Israeli statesman
Abba Eban.
Yehuda Hanani has per-

United States in 1969.
Mrs. Horowitz is the
artistic director and founder
of the Lyric Chamber
Ensemble.

Kadima Is Hosting
Psychiatric Seminar
"Chronic Schizophrenia .. .
Is There Hope?" will be the
topic at the second annual
Conference on Adults with
Psychiatric Disabilities to
take place 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
March 19 at the Ritz-Carlton
Hotel, Dearborn.
The conference is co-spon-
sored by Kadima and the
Michigan Association of
Neuropsychiatric Hospitals
and Clinics Physicians.
Featured speakers will be
from Case Western Reserve
University in Cleveland. Dr.
Marilyn A. Davies will be
speaking on the "Psycho-
social Intervention for
Chronic Schizophrenia"; and
Dr. S. Charles Schulz II will
be speaking on the "Clinical
Treatment of Persistently
sychotic Patients."
The keynote luncheon
dress will be given by Dr.
Elliot D. Luby, chief of psy-
chiatry emeritus of Harper-
Grace Hospitals, who will
discuss "Funding for the
Mentally Ill — What Can We
Expect From the Clinton
Era?"
The afternoon session will
feature Dr. Ralph Slovenko
of Wayne State University,
who will discuss "Medico-
legal Issues in Treating and
Managing Schizophrenia";
and Dr. Sheldon Kapen,
M.D., also of Wayne State
University and the Veterans
Administration Hospital,
speaking on "Dopamine in
the Central Nervous System."

for anyone interested in the
treatment of adults with psy-
chiatric disabilities, includ-

Men's Clubs Here
The Great Lakes Region of
the Federation of Jewish
Men's Clubs will hold its
63rd annual convention in
Detroit, March 12-14. Host
congregations will be Adat
Shalom, Beth Abraham
Hillel Moses, Beth Achim,
Beth Shalom, B'nai Moshe
and Shaarey Zedek.
Friday evening Shabbat
services and a traditional
Shabbat dinner will be host-
ed by Beth Shalom followed
by guest speaker, Rabbi
Charles Simon, executive
director of the Federation of
Jewish Men's Clubs.
Saturday morning Shab-
bat services will be hosted
by Beth Achim and conduct-
ed by Rabbi Martin J.
Berman and Cantor Max
Shimansky. The sermon
and Dvar Torah will be
delivered by Rabbi Simon.
Beth Achim will also host a
traditional Shabbat lunch.
Saturday night dinner
will be co-hosted by Adat
Shalom and B'nai Moshe at
B'nai Moshe.
Sunday morning services
and breakfast will be hosted
by Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses. Following the break-
fast, there will be a special
meeting and training pro-
gram for the men. The
wives of convention partici-
pants will see a cooking
demonstration titled "You
Won't Believe It's Kosher"
by Rabbi Aaron Bergman of
Beth Abraham Hillel Moses.

Meeting March 7
There will be a meeting of
people who were children
during World War II and
hidden from the Nazis at
10 a.m. March 7.

Encounter Weekend
At Adat Shalom
Adat Shalom Synagogue
will host Professor Barry
Holtz at an encounter week-
end March 12-13.
Professor Holtz is co-
director of the Melton
Research Center at the
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary.
The weekend will begin
with a lunch and learn pro-
gram 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m.
March 12. Dr. Holtz will
look at "Conflict and
Confrontation: What
Happens When Friends
Disagree." There is a
charge.
At Shabbat morning ser-
vices March 13, he will
deliver the sermon on "Four
Ways of Looking at Prayer:
The Personal Meaning of
the Prayerbook."
Dr. Holtz will explore a
Jewish theme during the
evening of March 13 in a
Barry Holtz
"hands-on" activity to
unlock hidden dimensions of
biblical text. There is no

Jewish AIDS Forum
At JCC March 28
"Even in the Best of
Families .... A Jewish For-
um on AIDS" will be held 1-
4 p.m. March 28, at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center.
The event will include
several workshops of inter-
est to all ages. Topics for
adult sessions will include:
discussing AIDS with chil-
dren, human sexuality and
dating in the '90s.
Children's workshops will
focus on prevention as a
mitzvah and making an
AIDS quilt.
A panel discussion will
feature views from those
who live with persons with
AIDS, Jewish sources, the
community's response and
the medical perspective. It
will include Rabbi Arnie
Sleutelberg of Congregation
Shir Tikvah; Carolyn
Davidson of Jewish Family
Service; Pola Friedman, a
surviving sister of a person
with AIDS; and Dr.
Michael Snyder, medical
director of infection control
at Sinai Hospital.
