Will Sharansky
Return To Ukraine?

I

t isn't every day that
Israelis talk about -
sending refuseniks
back to the former Soviet
Union. But that's exactly
what happened during a
recent meeting between
Ukrainian President
Leonid Kravchuk and
Israeli Foreign Minister
Shimon Peres.
Mr. Kravchuk was visit-
ing Israel when Mr. Peres
suggested appointing
Natan Sharansky as
Israel's ambassador to the
Ukraine, according to a
report from the Union of
Councils of Soviet Jews.
Mr. Sharansky, the for-
mer dissident, was born in
the Ukraine.
No word yet on whether
he's interested in the job.

MK Nu-af Matzalcha said
he hoped the hospital will
serve as an example of

that could help foster
peace.
The director of the new
hospital is Professor
Yehuda Danon, former

surgeon general of the
Israel Defense Forces.
Ulfat Nimer, 5, of Kiri,
received a kidney trans-

admitted it was not easy
to bring her daughter to
an Israeli hospital. "But
everyone agreed that
Ulfat's well-being was
more important than
everything else."
Avishai Kleinman, the
Israeli boy, also received a
kidney transplant. Both
children are in good condi-
tion.
Facilities at CMCI
include:
• A 48-bed general pedi-
atrics inpatient depart-
ment on the hospital's
sixth floor. Within a week
of the opening, • every bed
was filled.
• An emergency room,
and imaging and radiology
center.
• A day-care unit for
general treatment of prob-
lems not requiring hospi-
talization.
• A burn unit, Israel's
first specifically for chil-
dren, is set to open in the
coming months.
