Seven Are Killed
On Israel Roads

Tel Aviv (JTA) - Israel's
dismal record of traffic ac-
cidents has claimed seven
more lives over the past few
days.
Two soldiers and five
civilians were killed and 33
other civilians injured in a
number of unrelated road
accidents throughout the
country and in Israeli-
controlled areas of neighbor-
ing Lebanon.
Sgt. Nir Dovev, 19, of
Holon, a tank commander in
the Israel Defense Force,
was killed. while on night
patrol along the northern
edge of the southern Leb-
anon security zone. His tank
overturned when it drove off
the road.
In another military acci-
dent, Cpl. Sasson Levy, 20,
of Kiryat Ata was killed in
an army camp in the Jordan
Valley on Feb. 19 when,
although not having a driv-
ing license, he volunteered
to take a mechanics squad
elsewhere in the camp to
repair a faulty vehicle.
While returning the com-
mand car back to his own
post, he overturned the vehi-
cle and was pinned
underneath.
Five civilians were killed
on the outskirts of Beer-
sheba early Feb. 21. All of
the dead were members of
the Bedouin El Assima tribe
of the northern Negev. They
were killed when their van
tried to pass a car and hit a
truck head-on.

Israel Doubts
U.N. Motion

Jerusalem (JTA) - Israeli
officials say they doubt a
recommendation by the U.N.
Human Rights Commission
to send an investigator to
the administered territories
will be acted upon by the
U.N. General Assembly.
Political sources described
the resolution, passed last
week in Geneva, as a
"routine decision adopted by
this forum almost every
year."
Moreover, political
observers say the move was
adopted this year with the
support of 26 countries,
compared to 30 last year.
The Human Rights Com-
mission resolution to dispat-
ch an investigator has never
been acted on in the past,
and Israel regards the
resolution as political.
