member Avraham Shapiro
of the United Torah Judaism
party, has been forced into
receivership after the
government refused to sub-
'sidize it any further.
The decision to place the
company into receivership
was ordered by a Tel Aviv
court at the behest of one of
the concern's banking
creditors.
The creditor made the re-
quest following a decision by
Minister of Finance
Avraham Shohat not to plow
government funds into the
company in order to keep it
solvent.
Carmel Carpets reportedly
owes debts of $150 million.

ministration's decision to
scrap plans to build a Voice
of America relay station in
the environmentally sen-
sitive Arava region of the
Negev desert.
The Society for the Protec-
tion of Nature in Israel
termed its campaign against
the station "the most
difficult and drawn-out
battle" in its history. It said
the campaign's successful
end is "a just reward for our
extensive efforts."
