international movement to
awaken the Jewish people
to their heritage. She was
named Woman-of-the-
Year by Hadassah. Her
book is titled The Jewish
Soul On Fire.

Sets Programs

Midrasha College of Jew-

its winter-spring program
schedule, featuring mini-
courses, lunch and dinner
study opportunities, home
study groups, elderhostel,
and special events, to be
hosted both by Midrasha
and by co-sponsoring
organizations and congre-
gations throughout metro
Detroit. Topics include
Jewish theology and phi-
losophy, great Jewish
books, Jewish holidays on
an adult study level,
Jewish art history, Jeru-
salem, Jewish Detroit,
Michigan Jewish history,
and more.

Is Offering New Programs

The Parenting Center
will offer a program for
new parents on traditions:
circumcision, baby naming
and redemption of the
first-born. Health issues
and family changes will
also be discussed 7:30-9
p.m. March 23 and 30 at
the Parenting Center.
The program will be led
by Rabbi Irwin Groner,
Dr. George Blum and
Elissa Rosenfeld. Regis-
tration is requested.
An approach to talking
to children about death,
dying and suicide will be
held 7:30-9 p.m. March 10
at the Parenting Center.

Aids Agencies

"Helping Fellow Jews in
Our Community" will be
the focus of an activity
for fifth-graders to learn
about tzedakah at the
sixth annual Tzedakah
Fair Feb. 28 at Temple
Beth El.
"Raising Self-Esteem
Through Tzedakah" will
be the theme of a work-
shop for parents and
teachers at the program,
co-sponsored by the
Jewish Federation Wo-
men's Division, Jewish
Experiences For Fami-
lies (J.E.F.F.), The
Jewish News and Temple
Beth El.
Special activities for
children also are
planned, and partici-
pants are asked to bring
a tzedakah donation and
a can of kosher food for
Yad Ezra, the communi-
ty food bank.
Admission is free, and
refreshments will be

The Volunteer Network of
the Jewish Federation
Women's and Business
and Professional Women's
divisions has scheduled
several opportunities next
month for women to volun-
teer in the metropolitan
Detroit area.
On March 5, volunteers
will sponsor a Kabbalat
Shabbat with Jewish Voca-
tional Service Project Out-
reach clients with mental
disabilities who reside at
Livonia Nursing Home, 1-3
p.m.
Network participants
will perform a Purim
shpiel at Teitel Federation
Apartments on March 11.
The 6:15-9:30 p.m. pro-
gram will include a tour of
the facility and a chance to
mingle with residents.
At Pontiac Transitional
Housing for the homeless
(PATH), volunteers will
paint a mural, help refin-
ish furniture and assist in
spring cleaning, 10 a.m.-

noon March 14.
On March 21, partici-
pants will visit with
patients at Sinai Hospital,
11 a.m.-1 p.m. They also
will take a gift cart around
to patients' rooms and
assist in the emergency
room.

Hadassah Hosts
Purim Party

The Greater Detroit
Chapter of Hadassah will
hold a Purim party featur-
ing storytelling by Cheri
Litberg and a magical per-
formance by the Amazing
Clafk, 2 4 p.m. Feb 28 at
the Hadassah House.
There will be a costume
parade.
The entry fee is a new,
unwrapped kitchen item
(towels, baking tins, uten-
sils, toaster) to be donated
to the new Jewish immi-
grants. Refreshments will
be served.
