A Study To Prevent Diabetes
Do You Have A
Family History of Diabetes?

Do you have a family history of diabetes? If you answer yes, research has shown that

you may be at risk of getting diabetes. If you have one or more of the following con-
ditions, you may have an increased risk for impaired glucose tolerance, a condition
that often leads to diabetes mellitus:

* You have high blood pressure
* You are 25 pounds or more overweight
* YOU have high cholesterol
* You have been told in the past you have chemical diabetes or borderline
diabetes
* If you are female and you have had diabetes during a pregnancy

It is also known that diabetes is more common in persons of Hispanic, African, Asian
Indian, and Native American origins.

William Beaumont Hospital's Division of Preventive and Nutritional Medicine is
testing an investigational drug for reversing or slowing the condition of impaired glu-

Rabbi Eric Krohner has
accepted a position as
national director of Ohr
Somayach/Tanenbaum
College International.
Rabbi Krohner will open a
national office in Detroit
where he will plan and
implement Torah study
programs with community
leadership across the
country.
Ohr Somayach/Tanen-
baum College is an inter-
national Judaic college,
with full colleges on four
continents.
Rabbi Krohner is a grad-
uate of Ohr Somayach/
Tanenbaum College where
he completed his talmudic
studies. In addition, he
holds master's and bache-
lor's degrees in public
affairs and administration
from Michigan State Uni-
versity's Honors College
and Wayne State Uni-
versity respectively. He
worked as a special man-
agement consultant to the
Mayor of Detroit's pro-
ductivity and management
division and was a former
instructor of public affairs

For the past four years
he has been the director of
development for the
Yeshiva Gedolah of
Greater. Detroit where he
created the T.O.R.A.
(Torah Out-Reach Act-
ivity) programs. The
T.O.R.A. program will

baum College Inter-
national.

Temple Emanu-El's Acad-
emy For Adults will hold
courses for a six-week
spring quarter. Courses
meet Monday nights 8
p.m. or 9 p.m., Feb. 22,
March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.
Courses include:
"Living Safely and
Sanely in an Unsafe and
Insane World" with Rabbi
Lane Steinger. This
course will explore charac-
teristic Jewish texts which
reflect the Jewish concern
with a good but imperfect
and often dangerous exis-
tence.
"Teach Me Why:
Transmitting Values
Through The Generations"
with Pat Milner. This
course will show how to
use family heirlooms,
memories, family history
and everyday activities to
express values to children
and grandchildren.
"Creative Midrash:
Finding Yourself in the
Text" with Lisa Pad-
zensky. This class will
help rediscover women in

the Bible, and enable
women today to find a
place for themselves in
the text. Participants will
create their own
Midrashim.
"Make It Happen:
Building an Effective
Organization" with Beth
Robinson. This course is
for people involved in tem-
ple or community activi-
ties such as planning and
publicizing events and vol-
unteer development.
"Talmud With Training
Wheels" with Ira J. Wise.
Topics include marriage
and divorce, prayer and
Jewish education. Hebrew
skills are not required.
