FEBRU ARY
Bonn (JTA) — The German
DJewish community has re-
jected a plan to erect a joint
memorial to victims of
Nazism and Stalinism, at
the site of the former concen-
tr a ti on camp of
Sachsenhausen.
The plan, initiated by the
state government of
Brandenburg, calls for a
memorial that would be in
two parts, each dedicated to
a separate group of victims.
The Jewish community
• chairman, Ignatz Bubis, said
'in Potsdam that some of the
victims of Stalinism were
themselves Nazi criminals
who had earlier brought
• death and agony to Jews and
others. He pleaded for com-
\i pletely separate memorials
' in order to avoid "mixing
up" different events and
different crimes.
The Brandenburg edu-
cation minister, Heinrich
Enderlein, has spoken in
f avor of a joint memorial,
7 saying it would make sense.
At several sites in the
former East Germany, poli-
ticians, researchers, experts
and designers have been
working on plans to
• reconstruct memorials that
