son said. "Israel had in the
past a reputation for getting
lost in red tape. They are def-
initely changing in that area.
Each country has its own va- )
riety of red tape, that's all.
"Within Israel, too, things
are changing," he said. "More
and more Soviet and Ethiopi-
an olim are becoming part of
the job market. They are tak-
ing jobs that might seem me-
nial. But, they are willing to
work and work hard. Our
hope is that the economy and
business picture strengthens
itself so that the future is
brighter."
Mr. Davidson was ada-
mant about his feelings to-
ward the olim. To him, they
represent an important key
to Israel's economic future.
They are being retrained for
success, and they are fulfill-
ing the dreams they had
when they left the former So-
viet Union.
"Israel is emerging in new
areas," he said. "They are al-
ready good in areas of elec-
tronics, pharmaceuticals and
other industries."
Wherever he travels in Is-
rael, Mr. Davidson sees hope
for peace. That hope is shared
by those countries doing busi-
ness or considering business
contact with Israel.
"There's a feeling of hope
for peace," said Mr. Davidson.
"I think that along with that
feeling you are seeing that Is-
rael is being more accepted
in the world business com-
munity. Israel is a great place
to be. It's going to get even
better."
