Use The 'T' Fruits
For Smart Snacking

Snacking doesn't need to be
bad, although couch potatoes
and junk food may have given
snacking a poor image. In
fact, snacking can be a time
to pack in essential nutrients
between meals. Here are
some smart snacking tips —
simple, easy-to-prepare, and
each recipe is low in fat with
nutrients like vitamin C,
fiber, calcium (crucial for
healthy bones) and blood-
building iron. Many of these
snacking tips feature Florida
T-fruit (including tangerines,
tangelos and temples).

HONEY-FRUIT
WAFFLES
1 tangerine or tangelo,
peeled and
segmented
1 teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon wheat bran
1 whole grain frozen
waffle

Mix together segmented
tangerine, honey and bran.
Dollop on toasted waffle.

CITRUS "SUNSHINE"
SALAD

You can create an irre-
sistibly luscious fruit salad by
mixing together different T-
fruits, each with its own dis-
tinct taste and aroma. The

salad's flavor will be even
richer after letting the juices
meld together for a half hour
or so (refrigerate if longer
than half an hour).

4 temples (or tangelos,
Dancy tangerines)
1 white grapefruit
1 Ruby Red grapefruit

Peel and cut fruit (sized to
your liking), and mix
together in a big bowl. Makes
about 10 cups.

COOL T-FRUIT DIP

This cool, creamy snack is
rich in health and low in fat.

1 cup (8 oz.) low-fat
vanilla yogurt
1 tangelo, peeled and
sectioned

Dip tangelo sections in
yogurt.

SUNSHINE SUNDAE
1/2 cup temple (or
tangerine) pieces,
peeled and
sliced/segmented
1 teaspoon honey
3 /4 cup vanilla frozen
yogurt
2 teaspoons chopped
walnuts (optional)

Mix sliced temple with
honey and dollop onto frozen
yogurt. rIbp with walnuts. ❑
