February Events
Midrasha College of Jewish
Studies has announced its
calendar of events for the
month of February.
Geri Levit, Nira Lev and
Ahuva Newman are teaching
Hebrew language and litera-
ture classes weekday morn-
ings and evenings as well as
Sunday afternoons.
A beginner Hebrew class,
co-sponsored with Hillel Day
School, is taught by Ahuva
Newman, Thursday mornings
' 10 a.m.-noon, at the Midrasha
building.
Another beginner Hebrew
class, taught by Tziona
Ragowsky, meets 9:30-11 a.m.
Sunday morning at Con-
gregation Shir Tikvah's Sun-
day school location, Costello
Elementary School in Troy.
Midrasha will host a lunch
and learn noon Feb. 18 . co-
sponsored by the B'nai B'rith
Michigan Regional Council
and the Michigan Board of
Rabbis at the Midrasha. This
month's topic is "When Were
the Gospels Written?" The
speaker is Monsignor Leon-
ard Blair, ecumenical officer
for the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Midrasha and Congrega-
tion Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses will present Peninnah
Schram, Jewish storyteller
and author, 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21.
In a Purim evening of
"Humor and Hochma
(Wisdom) with a Detour
through Chelm," Ms. Schram
will guide adults and older
children through the world of
Jewish folklore. This event
will take place at Congrega-
tion Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses. Admission is free;
refreshments will be served.
Starting Feb. 23, Midrasha
will offer a 12-week course
titled "Selected Readings
from Talmudic Literature,"
taught by Rabbi Rod
Glogower. This text seminar
will meet 10 a.m.-noon on
Tuesday. Reading knowledge
of Hebrew is a prerequisite for
this course.
Also on Feb. 23, Midrasha
will host a special get-
acquainted lunch and learn
for chairs of adult education
committees of local congrega-
tions and Jewish organiza-
tions. Rabbi Glogower will
lead a brief study session,
followed by discussion of ways
in which lay leaders in adult
Jewish education can work
together to advance lifelong
Jewish learning in our
community.
