A TIME REMEMBERED cuss mixed feelings about the wedding," adds Dr. Komrad. "Everyone has them, and they are normal. Hiding them is unhealthy and stress producing." Nothing is more stress producing than be- coming obsessed with wedding details. Del- egate responsibilities and be content with less than perfection. "It is amazing," continues Dr. Komrad, "but on your wedding day, you prob- ably won't even notice details that seemed so important a few weeks before. In fact, if par- ents are paying for the wedding, I say relax and let them give you a party." He also recommends setting aside time a few days before the wedding for a personal retreat Spend some time alone, take a long walk, visit a place that has special meaning to you, or have a quiet talk with clergy. "Mar- riage is a sacred experience, even if you are getting married at a courthouse." Other stress reducers include planning as thoroughly as possible to prevent last-minute decisions, avoiding late-night parties too close to the wedding, and keeping a rein on alco- hol consumption. Perhaps the most impor- tant advice is to keep your sense of humor. If, despite the best intentions, stress hits, there are practical ways to deal with it. Jim Kasoff, director of the Physical Performance Institute in Baltimore, has one word of advice: "Exercise." Activities such as biking, jogging and even brisk walking are known stress re- ducers. Your body can feel the effects if you exercise as little as twenty minutes a day, three times a week. But don't wait until the week before the wedding to start the program and expect to feel results. If you are feeling hyper, avoid caffeine prod- ucts, including chocolate, soft drinks and some over-the-counter medicines.
