''....A- IaLco• • • 4^, WOO •• Inn at Langley, on faraway Whidbey Island in Puget Sound, overlooks Saratoga Passage, the channel that runs between the island and the coast of Washington. The stylishly de- signed hostelry, part Frank Lloyd Wight and part Pacific Rim, is a three-story concrete-and- wood structure that hangs off a bluff and de- scends to the beach below. Each of the twenty-four guest rooms, mostly wood and glass Asian-style affairs, is quite spacious (the smallest is 450 square feet; the suite is 700). Oversized whirlbaths are found in every room. Guests open the blinds onto a view of the spectacular Cascade Mountains. Just be- low, whales frequent the Saratoga Passage. Jacket and tie are preferred, but, as one Langley afficiona- do notes, "the northwest does celebrate sweaters." In 1985, the Supreme Court, by a 9-0 vote, declared that Long Island, N.Y. was really a peninsula and still attached to the mainland.
