urbane.
Pine Cay's homeowners, who are dedicated to preserving the is-
land's undisturbed nature, own the Meridien Club. They putter about
the island in their electric golf carts. There are thirty private homes
and cottages spread all over Pine Cay, several of which are available
for rent ($2,300 to $5,100 weekly, call RMI Marketing, 800-331-9154 .)
The Club has twelve beach units set among undisturbed stretches
of sand dunes, each with private patio and separate sitting, sleeping,
and dressing areas. Honeymooners should elect to stay in the Club's
popular Sand Dollar Cottage, a one-room cottage that resembles a
hut. Sand Dollar Cottage has no cooking facilities (thank-
thatched
fully), but there is a refrigerator and coffeemaker.
There are all the requisite activities: dive packages, a tennis court,
and water sports. A 500-acre nature reserve is laced with nature trails
that lure bird watchers and botanists, as well as joggers. To get to
the Meridien Club you must first fly to Miami, then to Providenciales,
nicknamed "Provo." The Meridien Club provides boat service from
Provo to Pine Cay. (Double occupancy rates from $380 — $545 per day.
Add $50 per night for Sand Dollar Cottage. Call RMI Marketing, 800-
331-9154.)

Hope Town Harbour Lodge, Elbow
Cay, Abacos Lest you are beginning to think that the trop-
ics are the exclusive preserve of the ultra-privileged, do not despair:
there are affordable places to stay in these parts, and Hope Town Har-
bour Lodge is one of them. The old-time lodge on Elbow Cay in the
Abacos Islands, Bahamas, is an inexpensively priced hotel, nicely po-
sitioned between the harbor and the ocean. Formerly an official Aba-
cos government residence, the resort faces Hope Town harbor and
extends right down to the beach; so guests can enjoy sand and surf on
one side, and the water sports based at the lodge's harbor dock on the
other. You're likely to see friendly villagers strolling along the two roads
