Information about 150
Israel travel, study and
volunteer programs, as
well as national and local
scholarship and financial
assistance, is available
through the Israel Desk of
the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit.
Directed by Sivan Maas,
the community shlicha,
the office is a resource for
transportation and accom-
modations in Israel. It
provides a variety of local-
ly and nationally spon-
sored opportunities for
people of all ages. In addi-
tion to many tours, non-
traditional experiences
include high school, uni-
versity and direct service
programs.
The Israel Desk's
Center for Israel Scholar-
ships is a clearinghouse of
information about finan-
cial assistance and schol-
arships. Many of these are
available through Federa-
tion; congregations, He-
brew schools, community
and youth groups, and
national organizations
which offer funds to young
people traveling to Israel
on educational or service
programs.
These include members
of the B'nai B'rith Youth
Organization, United
Hebrew High School grad-
uates and Midrasha stu-
dents, members of several
local congregations, and
participants in the over-
seas program at Hebrew
University in Jerusalem,
Volunteers for Israel and
the Masada Program.
The Ben Teitel Israel
Incentive Savings Plan
provides $100 up to $700
for each year a student
at an area Jewish day,
Sunday or afternoon
school saves $150 toward
Israel travel-study, begin-
ning in the 5th-7th
grades.
Among the travel, study,

lege summer tours
