honorees.

A Russian emigre, Mr.
Slomovitz began his jour-
nalism career as an ap-
prentice at the University
[, of Michigan's Michigan
Daily, where he later
served as night editor.
z During his career, he
worked on the copy desk
and as a reporter for the
Detroit News and as edi-
tor of the Jewish Pictorial.
He also wrote for the Jew-
ish Telegraphic Agency
news service and was an
editor and columnist for
the Detroit Jewish Chron-
icle. In 1942, he founded
the Detroit Jewish News,

In Purely Commentary,
Mr. Slomovitz has covered
_countless topics, spanning
many world changes and
religious and secular
views.

Among his accomplish-
ments, Mr. Slomovitz cov-
ered for the Free Press
the 1961 trial in Israel of
Adolph Eichmann.
He also was one of the
founders of the American
Jewish Press Association,
and he helped organize
the World Jewish Journ-
alists group. Mr. Slomo-
vitz was a co-founder of
the Detroit chapter of the
National Conference of
Christians and Jews, and
he helped create JARC.
An awards ceremony
will take place April 14 at
the MSU Kellogg Center. ❑
