Charles Agree Outpost Camp "Where the Feelings Always Remain" Tit 's summer there were two co-ed programs run for teens entering 9th, 10th, & 11th grades. The first program, Canadian Wilderness, consisted of 18 teenagers entering 9th grade. This group did a total of four exciting wilderness trips. Two were white water canoe trips where they learned how to shoot rapids and were able see moose, hawks, loons, owls and lots of other wildlife in their natural habitat. The other two trips were hiking trips along the beautiful coast of Lake Superior. On these trips the groups encountered beautiful scenery, waterfalls, wildlife, and the Northern Lights. The second program, Resident Agree, consisted of fifteen teenagers entering 10th and 11th grade. This group not only did canoe and hiking trips but they also helped build a new game room at camp. With the help of a local carpenter they cleared the land, poured the foundation, and built the new addition from floor to roof. We ended the session by putting up a plaque with everyone's name on it. Any camper that attends Agree Outpost also gets to participate in rock climbing and repelling, sightseeing and souvenir shopping, solo overnights, cooking their own homemade meals, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and more. Western Alaska "An Awesome Experience" `A Once in a Li etime Experience" e had a long ride to Colorado, but we had fun. We hung out on the duffles, played Euchre, and had some great discussions. The hike in Rocky Mountain National Park was great! The views were amazing, and sliding down the snowfields was wild! Then it was off to Aspen for rafting and biking. No injuries and lots of memories. Arches was cool, even though it was hot. We did some great day hikes in Zion, especially the Narrows and Angel's Landing. Finally, we were heading towards our big hiking trip in the Tetons. Four days and three nights hiking in the mountains. After our hike, the showers felt great, and the pizza in Jackson Hole tasted tremendous! We moved on to see the bison and elk in Yellowstone, then we started towards home. But first, a few days in South Dakota to get down and dirty in the coves, and do some volunteer work for the park service. Excitement and sadness combined as we arrived in Michigan. We spent our last night remembering all the great times, wishing they would never end. W Although it seems like yesterday when the trip ended, plans are well underway for Western '93. Interest has been high, and trips are nearly sold out. See you on the Rockies. 1993 will be better than ever. We will be going White Water Rafting, Sea Kayaking, hiking the Agawa Canyon and visiting the famous Ojibway Indian Pictographs. The feeling and friendships that one makes at Agree lasts a lifetime. For more information on any of our summer programs call 313-661-0600. I t was a long haul to the Canadian Rockies, but well worth the wait. Plain of the 6 glaciers was great, and we had another wonderful parking lot meal. The drive to the coast was beautiful, with mountains, and moonrises. We hopped on the ferry, bus and all, and relaxed as we cruised up the Inside Passage. We approach Alaska with anticipation and anxiety, for the Chilkoot Trail lay ahead. It was a tough hike, but the feeling of accomplishment and the unbelievable scenery were worth every blister, every aching joint. To soothe our battered bodies, we headed to Takhini Hot Springs. The Kenai was our next destination, with a chance to do some trail work, fishing, and going to a great bakery. We headed North to Denali State Park, hiking for 3 days and 2 nights on the tundra of the Kseugi Ridge. A little farther north was Denali National Park, with lots of moose, caribou, and grizzly, as well as the huge image of Mt. McKinley, towering over everything! Next stop, Haines and a chance to learn the ways of the past at the Chilkat Cultural Center, and gorge ourselves at Porcupine Pete's. We boarded the ferry and headed to Juneau, where we kayaked, fished, observed seals, eagles, and bears, and had a great time. We hopped the ferry back to the mainland, watching whales and dolphins swim along the way. We headed back to the Canadian Rockies (Jasper to be exact) and did some day hikes. Next a dose of civilization at its craziest, the water park in the West Edmonton Mall. A long drive home, a couple days in the U.P., and we'had a sweet memory of the 46 greatest days of our lives. Plans are already underway for Alaska 93, and the trips are looking good, and they are nearly sold out. However, if the demand warrants, we will look into developing a 3rd trip.
