"A Dawning of a New Era"

e at Fresh Air Society have embarked on a
new era. Tamarack Camps are moving forward
so that we can continue our Tradition
of Excellence.

Those of us who have been fortunate enough to be
associated with the Fresh Air Society can truly remark
on our proud history and tradition. We have just
finished celebrating our 90th anniversary, which
makes us the longest standing camping agency in
North America.

Although the 90's will be a time for a resurgence in the
camping field, our financial resources will get even
tighter. Fresh Air Society is making every effort to
streamline its' budget, trying to keep costs to parents
down, and serve even greater numbers of Jewish
children. It is not an easy task, but our agency, its'
volunteers and staff are determined to help young
people reach their potential in a Jewish environment
that is secure and happy. They are our first priority.

Camp Maas will feature many exciting new programs
and facilities this summer.
A full summer of fun including Water-skiing with Tubing, Knee Boarding, Jet Skiing,
and the use of a Boom for every child to learn how to ski will be offered. Turn your Radio to
1610 AM and listen to Camp Maas' very own radio show. It will be heard throughout camp on
regular radios.
Kayaking will be taught to all campers at Maas, with Awards, Badges, and a Kayak trip out
of camp for those real keeners.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Blast Off with Maas is a brand new rocketry program. Campers will build and
launch rockets into the Skies of Ortonville.
The highlight for children at Maas will be the CIRCUS CAMP. Every child will experience
the thrill of swinging from a 30 ft. trapeze, flipping on a trampoline, learning to juggle,
clowning around, and walking high above the grand on a tight rope.
Our New Counsellor In Training Program for teens grade 11 - 12, will definitely be the
camp experience of their career. (See article outlining this exciting new program on Page 4.)
Tired of doing laundry for your children while they are at camp? This year Camp Maas will
have a laundry service every 2 weeks.
The Berman Ball Field has been leveled and expanded. An additional Floor Hockey rink
has been added. A Half Court Basketball Area has been constructed at Rodecker Beach.
The emphasis at Maas will be on skill development and fun. Plus our excellent Tripping
Program, Ropes, Arts and Crafts, and Horseback Riding, will all continue to be a mainstay of
our camping program. "Hope to see you in 1993"

In the coming months, you will hear about the new
programs and positive direction Tamarack Camps is
heading. Each of us will be called upon to contribute
our energies and resources to bring more camping
opportunities to our children. Your loyalty and
continued participation in the life of Fresh Air Society
is deeply appreciated and I know you will help us
go forward.

Staff Makes the
Difference

I

arrived at Tamarack Camp in May and travelled to
all the camps throughout the summer. We can be
very proud of our Programs. Facilities, and Staff.

Suzie Zaks, Director of Camp Tamarack at Brighton,
and her Senior Staff, Karen Lovenger, Helayne Shaw,
provide a truly wonderful place for young children.
The warmth, caring and serenity is evident in every
aspect of their work. Creative programming and going
the extra mile is what separates Camp Tamarack from
all other camps.

Camp Maas, with Ruth Grey, Marc Kay, and 150
hardworking program staff have developed a strong
sense of community at camp. The tradition, history,
and terrific programs are kept strong by the level of
returning staff every year. Combined with our new
programs for 1993, Maas will be better than ever.
