Detroit, where she lived

; Mrs. Schutzman says it's
much more manageable.
Before moving to the
Jewish Federation Apart-
ments over two years ago,
she had to climb up and
Clown stairs to do laundry.
This was especially diffi-
cult for the 83-year-old
because, like Mrs. Stance,
Mrs. Schutzman has one
>leg. In the Federation
Apartments, there are ele-
vators, which Mrs.
Schutzman says are con-
venient, and a hangout for
, chitchatting with other
residents.

tor at the Teitel Building,
ays the Federation

important need in Detroit.
"We have a responsibili-
ty to the elderly," she
• said. "The elderly now

elderly before them."
The apartments, says
Ms. Milner, demonstrate
the Hebrew saying: Dor
l'dor, from generation to
generation.
"It's a way of saying

community we live in
