Staff Makes the Difference

Continued from page 1

Our Outposts camp, led by Jody Winkelman, Director
of Kennedy, and Beth Sonne, Director of Agree,
promote a special feeling and helps to develop our
camper's self-esteem. I can truly say, after spending 3
days at Kennedy, there is no better experience for a
teenager then experiencing group living away from the
luxuries of city life.

As always our Western and Alaska trips, coordinated by
Mitch Rosenwasser is a once in a lifetime experience. I
have had many parents ask if they could go on our
travel trips too.

The Fresh Air Society takes special pride in our
Silverman Village, Directed by Barb Vedder. This
program has provided many children with special
needs, to undergo a successful camp experience.
There are only winners in this program.

New Family Camp is on the upswing with sold out
programs for the 92 Summer, Succott, and New Years
Camp. Andy Roman Roisman, our hardworking
Director, is planning Bubbie/Zadie Family Camp,
Family Canoe Trip, and many other exciting programs.
Many Synagogues, with the help of J.E.F.F. are working
with us to develop their Family Camp Programs.

Outdoor education which runs from March - June is
being coordinated by Debbie Scott an expert in the
field. As of this time our programs are sold out. We will
be serving over 5,000 school children in 1993.

I am very proud of our hard working, dedicated staff,
from our support team, led by Elliot Sorkin and Ron
Miller, to our maintenance staff, directed by Chuck
Bumstead, and all our volunteer and professional staff.
It is their efforts that will lead Tamarack Camps to
further successes in the 90's.

Camp Tamarack

"We wish the Summer Where the Young
Never Ended"
Flourish"

e Camp Maas Summer of '92 was
filled with great times. Our activity
areas like Arts and crafts, Video,
Sports, Waterfront, projects with Iry and
horseback riding were all busting at the
seams with campers excited to play,
create and learn. The ROPES course
program continues to offer campers an
opportunity for personal challenge and
growth as they climb over walls, up
towers and through spider webs made of
rope. Camping experiences such as
cook-outs, overnight in Pine Forest,
hiking and canoe trips provided unique
outdoor experiences that make those
special camp memories. All village and
all camp programs such as dances,
Exodus, Journey to America, Foxfire,
Maccabia, Talent Shows, the Specialty
play of "Joseph and his Technicolor
Dreamcoat", Dance City performance
called "Motor City Revue", an
outstanding Tisha B'Av program and
those special Shabbat dinners in the
Pavilion.

Appearing on the scene were some new
and enhanced activities and programs
that helped to enrich our summer
schedule. A new outdoor rink was built
to be used for outdoor floor hockey and
roller-skating. New bunk programs
included those with a Jewish twist called
"Jammin' Jewishly". Our recycling
program has been expanded and now
includes recycling cans in the villages
and our first attempt at composing as
well as village awards for an outstanding
job in all areas of recycling. The drama
department produced an all camp play,
"Willy Wonka and the Chocolate
Factory" which allowed many campers
to be stars. First session, camp held a
Zimriya or Jewish song festival where all
the villages participated.

The campers enjoyed all the new and
traditional activities at camp. In contrast
to the coldest, wettest summer in camp
history was a camp summer filled with
loads of fun, spirit and joy in all our
activities and on the faces of each and
every one of our campers.

ALRIGHT...ALRIGHT...ALRIGHT...
OK...Camp Tamarack '92 was a summer
filled with exciting programs. Activities
included Jewish Double Dare, Challah
making, drama adventures, creating box
hockey games, face masks and spirits
and of course, lots of fishing and
swimming. Cookouts and overnights
were also favorites. Campers could be
seen all over camp pretending to be
different characters as they created
Medieval,Troll, Batman, Disney and
Captain Cruton Theme Days.

Summer '93 will begin just as we ended
last year - with dedicated staff, high spirit
and exciting programs. All camp theme
days of Maccabia, Israeli Day and of
course, Circus Day, are all being
planned.

A new addition this year will be the
WATER SLIDE at the main camp beach.
Also, more emphasis will be placed on
improving the skill level of our campers
especially in swimming, boating and
sports.

What Makes
Tamarack Camps -
A Jewish Camping
Experience?

"Where Judaic Values,
Ethics and Morals
Merge with the Outdoor
Experience"

elebrating Jewish culture and
religious traditions is a highlight
the Tamarack Camps and is infused
in the week's activities. Programs such
as "The Amazing Mystery Tour Through
Jewish History", "Exodus", "Israeli
Dancing", "Escape from the Ghetto",
and "Russian Press Conference" are bu
a few of the many programs which bring
our campers a heightened awareness of
being Jewish in this society and sense of
brotherhood and identity with Jews
around the world and throughout history.

C

The extended sessions will allow our
campers even more of an opportunity to
experience all that Tamarack has to
offer. Campers will continue to go on
overnights and trips. The Senior Side
boys and Pioneer Girls will enjoy their
newly revised canoe trip.

Shabbat is a particularly memorable time
at camp. It begins with presentations
before and after our traditional Friday
night meal, continues with Shabbat
morning services and afternoon
"Chugim" and concludes with a moving
all-camp Havdalah service and program •
on Saturday night. The mood created
and the feelings shared are so special
that they linger the entire week.

It's going to be an amazing summer of
exciting programs, great times and new
friendships. We hope you'll be a part of
it!

Jewish children from all over the world
come to Tamarack Camp to experience
fun, fellowship and good times all in a
special Jewish atmosphere.

OK...OK...OK...ALRIGHT...LET'S GO TO
TAMARACK.

Tamarack is "Mitzuyan".
