Rabbi David Nelson will hold
a monthly lunch and learn
noon Jan. 13 at Beth Shalom.
The topic will be "Timeless
Torah."
Joe Cornell dance classes
for children will begin 7 p.m.
Jan. 14 at the synagogue.
There is a charge.
The Men's Club will hold an
evening with the rabbi and
cantor 7 p.m. Jan. 21. Topics
for discussion will be "Moral
Dilemmas the Rabbi En-
counters" and "The Joy of
Jewish Song." Refreshments
will be served.
The Cultural Commission
will host a cabaret at 8 p.m.
Jan. 23. The evening will
feature four stars of the
Michigan Opera Theater:
Mark Vondrak, Maria
Cimarelli, Karl Schmidt and
Metsy Bronson. Refresh-
ments will be served.
The Sisterhood and Men's
Club will present Barbara
Alexander in "Miss Saigon"
11:30 a.m. Jan. 31. A brunch
is included.
All of the activities require
reservations and there is a

Temple Plans
Two Programs

The Birmingham Temple will
hold a Shabbat story hour 11
a.m.-noon Jan. 9 for children
3-6 and their parents.
Rabbi Sherwin Wine will
present the second of four
talks on Europe After Com-
munism 8:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at
the temple. He will discuss
"The New Russia: Can
Yeltsin Survive?" A discus-
sion will follow. There is a
charge.

Family Series
At B'nai Moshe

Congregation B'nai Moshe
will continue its Jewish Fam-
ily Encounters series at the
synagogue Jan. 20. The topic
for the evening is "Oppor-
tunities of Adolescence."
The discussion will feature
Howard Gelberd, executive
director of the Agency for
Jewish Education and
Deanne Ginns-Gruenberg,
psychologist. The program is
open to the entire community
at no charge.

In 1977 Miss Israel, Rina
Mor-Messinger, won the
Miss Universe contest, a
first for Israel.
