THIS PASSAT.

INTRODUCING THE NEW
1993 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT GLX V-6.

The new Passat GLX was built for
the passing lane, both physically and
figuratively.
It has a new 172 hp, V-6 engine that
can go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.9
seconds. It also comes with anti-lock
brakes, room for five adults, advanced
electronic traction control to help
prevent wheel spin and a track-
correcting rear axle for exact
cornering.

You'll also find the Passat GLX has
that one-on-one, solid feel you won't
find in anything but a Volkswagen—
that feeling we call Fahrvergnugen7
All in all, the Passat GLX is the
European driving sedan that rivals any
car in its class. So come in and test
drive the new
Passat GLX today
—we wouldn't
want it to pass you by.

rounds the problem of lin-
guistics in family back-
grounds.
For example, a husband
comes from a family that is
extremely non-emotive.
Thanks and appreciation are
rare and the highest of praise
consists in the verbalization
of a "not bad'. The wife comes
from an extremely emotion-
ally articulate family where
every one of her minor suc-
cesses was met with unbri-
dled adulation. When our wife
puts so much effort into work-
ing and running her home
plus preparing her husband's
meals she is grieved to hear
the "not bad' as his response.
Hostilely she withdraws
causing the similar reaction
to her now hurt spouse. An il-
lustration of this issue is the
dialogue that I often hear in
counseling between a couple
who have been married for
over 20 years. He says, "She
knows that I love, care for
and respect my wife." She
says, "It's not true, you only
tell me when something is
wrong." Even though we are
taught our wives are as our
very selves, we must not take
for granted that they are
aware of our love and respect.
Thus, the Talmud tells us
that the honor that we give
and the love that we afford go
beyond the unarticulated
thoughts that are sufficient
for our own minds internal
conversations.
Appreciation must be ac-
tually and clearly expressed.
In most marriages she really
does not know of the appreci-
ation and love that is within
her husband and he is not ful-
ly aware of the caring and re-
spect that his wife maintains.
This creates distance and
hurt and ironically an even
greater inability to articulate
the positive and uplifting. For
this the RaMBaM tells us,
"We must honor and respect
more than ourselves" and
"more than is enough" be-
cause the message is too
easily lost within the com-
plexities of our lives and the
defensiveness of our egos.
When Adam and Eve were
created they were born as
one, part of the same physi-
cal creation, only to be sepa-
rated later. Ultimately, they
were commanded to reunite
and celebrate "as one flesh"
the meeting of two halves of
their original whole. Rav Idi
tells us in Yevamot (63a) that
a man without a wife is not
an Adorn. While there are
several names for man, ish,
gever etc. only Adorn is the
very same in the singular and
plural form. Only in marriage
is the wholeness of Adorn re-
turned as the celebration of
our earliest beginning. Only

in this relationship is the
plural nature of two people
described in the singular. In
the Hebrew Adorn, there are
three letters. The aleph rep-
resents the Holy One who is
unique in His universe, the
daled the four corners of the
world from which Adorn was
gathered and the mem, the
forty seah (7.3 liters equals
one seah) of the mikvah that
purifies the human form to its
original holiness. Each one of
these letters is a point of our
triangle. We reach upwards
to the One above, outward to
the four corners of the world
in which we live caring for all
who surround us and inward
immersed within the waters
of purification as we seek to
peel away the coverings of our
soul. In marriage we reach
the level of Adorn; we are
asked to recreate the three
points of two separate exis-
tences, inward, outward and
upward. We place one trian-
gle of Torah, avoda and gemi-
lut chasadim upon another
forming a singular star that
gives light and warmth, str-
ength and compassion to an
otherwise cold night sky. LI

General Yatom
New Secretary

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Maj. Gen.
Danny Yatom has been ap-
pointed military secretary to
Prime Minister Yitzhak
Rabin, who also holds the
defense portfolio.
The post is currently held
by Brig. Gen. Azriel Nevo,
who is to be named military
attache at one of Israel's Eu-
ropean embassies.
The reason given for ap-
pointing a major general to
replace a brigadier general
is the merging of the
secretariat to serve two
senior ministries, the Prime
Minsiter's Office and
Defense.
Gen. Yatom has been serv-
ing as chief of the Israel
Defense Force's Central
Command, which includes
the West Bank. His
replacement in that post will
be Maj. Gen. Nehemiah
Tamari.
Israeli newspapers said
Gen. Yatom is being posted
away from his area com-
mand at his own request.
They reported that Yatom,
who was previously military
secretary to then Defense
Minister Moshe Arens, feels
he stands little chance of
promotion within the Gen-
eral Headquarters command
if he remains.
