and, even if a Jew hides
• behind a stone or a tree, the
tree or the stone will say,
`Muslim, servant of God,
there is a Jew hiding behind
me; come and kill him!' "
reads the Hamas charter,
quoting an Islamic religious
• passage.
"Every Jew or settler is a
target and must be killed.
Their blood and property are
forfeit," reads Hamas leaflet
65, published in October
1990.
The organization gets most
of its money from Iran,
Saudi Arabia and other Gulf
States, but its largest for-
eign "embassy" is in
Amman, Jordan. It gets fi-
nancial support and pro-
, paganda services from
Moslem communities in
England, Europe and the
United States. A Hamas
World Congress was held not
long ago in Kansas City.
"They have supporters in
Detroit, a lot in the Los
Angeles area, in Washing-
ton, in New York," said Mr.
Merari. These support
groups send money to
Hamas, ostensibly for chari-
ty or educational work, but
much of it goes to Iz a-Din al-
' Kassem. "Once the money
gets to the territories, it's
practically impossible to
control it," Mr. Merari said.
The Israeli Army has had
some notable successes in
capturing or killing Iz a-Din
al-Kassem members. But
after the Toledano murder,
the Army arrested some
1,600 Hamas members, and
none were identified as hit
men. ❑

Neo-Nazi
Speaks Of Ties

Budapest (JTA) — The re-
s. cent conviction of a neo- Nazi
leader in Hungary has not
severed the international
links forged by the
Hungarian extremist right.
Istvan Gyorkos, head of a
group called the Hungarian
▪ National Front, received a
year's suspended sentence
for illegal activities from a
court in his hometown of
Gyor, in western Hungary.
But in a recent interview,
he told Hungarian Televi-
• sion he continues to main-
tain ties with similar
Spanish, Austrian and Ger-
man organizations, in-
cluding some groups that are
banned in Germany.
Mr. Gyorkos, also claims
ties with Hungarian emi-
gres in America.
