6199 ORCHARD LAKE RD.

1/4 MILE NORTH OF MAPLE
North of Orchard Mall &
Sugar Tree

OPEN 7 DAYS
PER WEEK

West Bloomfield's Great
Northern is at the site of the
former Sign of the Beefcarver,
with big emphasis on a diver-
sified menu of seafood,
chicken, steak and other well-
prepared foods . . . This is plus
smoked goodness a la being
up north where they do so
much smoking of food . . . Try
the mild whitefish pate ap-
petizer . . . nothing like it
around.
CHALK UP another show
biz coup for Stuart Gorelick
. . . He's landed George Pep-
pard and A Lion In Winter for
March 31 at his George Burns
Theatre on Plymouth and
Farmington Rd.
Getting Jackie Mason to
replace Sid Caesar and Im-
ogene Coca on New Year's
Eve was a stunner . . . Jackie
will do his comic laugh-
getters at 8 p.m. and 11:45
p.m. shows . . . two hours at
each with a 15 minute inter-
mission between . . . All seats
are $60 in the festive at-
mosphere of New Year's Eve
. . . The national company of
Fiddler On The Roof comes in
Feb.. 16-21.

TO MANY it was like los-
ing a good friend when
Roman Terrace burned down
Feb. 4 of 1990 . . . Good news
emerges as former owner„
personable Bob McDonald,
will open Roman Terrace II
around February or March on
12 Mile and Halsted, with
125 seating and the same
Italian-American dishes folks
enjoyed.
BIG SUCCESS of last year
is repeated again as Men's
Club of Adat Shalom and
B'nai B'rith Regional Council
hold another New Year's Eve
shindig at Adat Shalom
Synagogue on Middlebelt off
Northwestern . . . It'll be
headed by Harvey Olson,
president of Adat Shalom
Men's Club (851-5100) and
brother Jerry Olson, events
chairman of B'nai B'rith
Council (552-8177).
IN TRUE MEANING of
fellowship, Christmas Day
will find Temple Beth El
Brotherhood members and
friends in the temple kitchens
preparing 250 holiday din-
ners for those who normally
would have nothing to eat .. .
Then they'll truck the meals
to Christ Cornerstone Mis-
sionary Baptist Church in
Detroit and portion out serv-
ings while hosting a mid-day
Christmas feast . . .
Brotherhood Past President
Earl Remer heads this year's
giving and would welcome
volunteer and cash donations
. . . He can be reached at
357-5522.
A BOX ATOP a group of
canned goods was the sym-

bolic centerpiece at each table
of Adat Shalom's social hall as
Yad Ezra, "Feeding The
Jewish Hungry," honored The
Jewish News . . . In the lobby
at our weekly publication of-
fices is the encased silver
tzedakah container given to
Associate Publisher Arthur
Horwitz.
The boxes and canned goods
were picked up after the din-
ner for distribution among
tons of other food to the
Jewish hungry . . . And don't
you ever believe there aren't
any! . . . Non-Jewish at-
tendees learned too that
kosher food as prepared by
Jeff, Sarah and Al Rosenberg
is not as bad as they thought
. . . In fact, one went so far as
to say her chicken was the
best she'd ever eaten.
Budy Manson (Sarah) told
of trying to get out of retire-
ment but couldn't jump into
the hours swing again, so is
back again as a retiree .. .
Stan Frankel, Iry Nusbaum,
Ann Newman, Dave Dombey
giving the smile he wants in-
stead of asking for it on
camera shoots . . . Al, Sarah
and Jeffrey Rosenberg have
been at Adat Shalom since it
opened 21 years ago . . . Al
and Sarah will celebrate their
47th anniversary in January
. . . Steve Tapper, three tables
of proud Jewish News staffers
. . . Like all good speakers,
Leonard Fein warmed the au-
dience with a couple of jokes
and laugh-evoking remarks
before going into his dynamic
speech . . . "I may not know
about bigotry, I may not know
about anti-Semitism, I may
not know about AIDS, but
dammit! I do know about
hunger!"
