We are not Jewish funda- mentalists. But if we Jews are called that, it is because we do believe that no one in Is- rael has the right to vote on issues except Jews. The Israeli government hoped that it would rule through Jewish votes. But if it needs the Arab parties, the Israeli Government could simply become Palestine by virtue of the democratic and popular vote. How much worse is that than giving part of Israel for "Palestine"? Only Israeli separation, with the Arabs going to Jordan i.e. eastern Palestine, can bring real peace. If we are Jewish funda- mentalists, then we make no apology and swear that we will see the day that the Arabs are pushed out of Is- rael. That is the only way we will see democratic Israel composed of 100% Jewish cit- izens facing the Arab states with their 100% Arab citi- zenry. If Israel continues to be Jew and Arab, the civil wars will continue. Oak Park 24695 Coolidge At 10 Mile Road 547-9669 M-S 9-6 Sun. 12-5 Applauding Efforts At Borman Hall The residents of Borman Hall are our mothers and fathers, our neighbors and friends and members of our congrega- tions. Their needs are so ba- sic and yet also endless. They struggle to carry on in com- fort and dignity in spite of an aged worn body or impaired memory. Their lot is not easy. It isn't easy giving care to people who cannot care for themselves. But, there are lots of helping-people at Bor- man Hall: aides and nurses, dieticians, therapists, social workers, volunteers, doctors and administrators, house- keepers and other staff. At Borman Hall everyone helps, everyone is involved. I am a nurse. I was sent from Sinai Hospital to help at Borman Hall. I have come to know and respect these peo- ple: the residents and the staff. I honor the old ones as they struggle to live out their lives as best they can. I believe that they are our treasure and our model. I also respect the peo- ple who care for the elderly because they have the courage to daily face the prob- lems of the aged. I believe that as we support them in their hard efforts we affirm that our community cares for its elderly. I count myself fortunate to be among those who are still able and healthy. I can give care and do not need it. But, I also know that my turn to need help will someday come. I have told my daughter that when the day comes that I cannot care for myself, bring me to Borman Hall. I will live out my life among those I love. Margo R. Gibbs Oak Park We Must All Renew Commitment As chairmen of the Detroit Friends of the Jewish Theo- logical Seminary we are heartened that the General Assembly of the Council of — Jewish Federations has tak- en up the issue of insuring Jewish continuity - religious- ly and culturally. Through the Federation movement, North American Jews have responded suc- cessfully to the many crises facing our people over the past half-century. However, we are now faced with per- haps the greatest threat of all _ - apathy to our religious tra- dition and heritage. The tremendous rise in in- termarriage is a wake-up call - for action. To meet the threat of rampant assimilation we will need the same energy, fi- nancial commitment, and cre- ativity which has been shown before by community leader- ship in addressing the social wefare needs of our people. Federations need to form' partnerships with syna- gogues, temples and institu- tions of Jewish education. Much must be done including the cultivation of the next generation of rabbis, teachers and Jewish communal pro--. fessionals. We must return the idea that to become a rabbi or a Jewish communal profes- sional is a worthy calling for any Jewish child. Among all of us there must be a renewed. commitment to Jewish learn- ing and living. The time to act is now.
