CHRISTINE NINANS,

district manager for Enter-
tainment Publications,
Detroit-West edition, says
,, that the '93 book is making
history . . . Over 1,000
charitable fund-raising
groups are expected to
‘- generate more than $1
million as more people than
ever before will help by pur-
chasing Entertainment '93
. . . A portion of the $35 book
purchase represents a
charitable contribution with
the coupons also helping pro-
mote increased traffic.
Detroit Tigers are in it for
the first time, as well as Bill
Knapp restaurants . . . Noted
spots like Joe Muer's and
others return . . . The books
_ are a good way to involve
volunteers in the fund-raising
process and fit nicely into the
holiday cultivation of funds
by charitable organizations.

OPENING DAY of the new
Rocky's of Northville by chef
Chuck (Rocky) Rachwitz and
former boss, Chuck Muer, for
whom Rocky worked since
1976, first as a kitchen
manager and then as cor-
porate executive chef, was
like coming back home for
r ‘ Rocky . . . This is where he
started with Chuck Muer .. .
and is now its co-owner.
The former Northville
Charley's has been opened
after a year of being closed .. .
It was previously operated by
the defunct Charley's group

who had bought a number of
eating spots owned by Chuck
Muer.
Rocky's warm, intimate set-
ting with fieldstone, mirrors,
etc., has a decor that is the
work of Chuck Muer's wife
Betty, and is general-
managed by highly compe-
tent, personable and always
pleasant Leo Beil Jr.
Chef Milos Cihelka, Golden
Mushroom master chef/co-
owner, and chef Richard Ben-
son, highly acclaimed instruc-
tor of Schoolcraft College's
culinary arts program, came
to give their good luck bless-
ing along with Bill Kruse,
Chuck's partner at their two
Kruse Muer Restaurant
operations in Rochester .. .
Bill also has the Rochester
Chop House.

About 34 came for dinner
and 12 more to partake of the
sumptuous sweet table ..
both prepared by highly
talented daughters Terri
Cassels and Suzie Kamen .. .
They kicked mother out of the
clubhouse kitchen and Irene
loved it . . . Terri and Suzie
had been in the Thanksgiv-
ing Day parade so it was a
mighty full day for them .. .
Terri is head of the Cheer
Michigan school for
cheerleaders.
Her clever labeling of
goodies like Delaware Dripp-
ings (gravy), etc., were accom-
panied by a lot of good food
. . . Terri's corn candy-filled
small baskets at the tables
were seating cards with
names written on wooden
hearts.
Congrats to Nancy Gitlan
Freidman on her birthday .. .
Cousin of Nate and Irene was
here from California to attend
Mumford High's 30-year reu-
nion that Saturday evening at
Fairlane Manor . . . Congrats
to Karen and Sid Blackman
on their 25th anniversary .. .
Candles for Nancy, Karen and
Sid were blown out . . . Rick
Stein, retired podiatrist, can't
get enough education . . .
He'll now become a
pharmacist. ❑
