Mr. Budin and his family
hope to remain in the
metropolitan Detroit area,
where he will pursue plans to
launch a care management
and guardianship firm for el-
derly living in nursing
homes.
For years, Mr. Budin said,
he has been working out de-
tails to create a firm that
works as an advocate for the
elderly. But, he said, plans
were put on hold when he ac-
cepted the job in Detroit.
"I don't give up. I don't
jump ship," Mr. Budin said.
"This was the right time to do
this."
Mr. Schon said he regret-
ted Mr. Budin's resignation.
"Mr. Budin has served the
Home with dedication and its
residents with devotion. He
was always accessible for
family members and resi-
dents."
Markey Butler, who
served as a consultant and
Borman director during its
state survey process, has
been appointed interim exec-
utive director. In this capac-
ity, she will supervise Bor-
man in Detroit, Prentis
Manor in Southfield and
Fleischman Residence in
West Bloomfield.

Charges Made
Against Olmert

Jerusalem (JTA) — The na-
tional police fraud squad is
investigating allegations
that former Likud Health
Minister Ehud Olmert was
involved in collusion over
the purchase of medical
equipment by state hospitals
during his term in office.
Mr. Olmert denied any
wrongdoing in transactions
involving sales of com-
puterized equipment made
by Microshev, a small firm
owned by party colleague
Yigal Cohen-Orgad.
He said he hoped for a
speedy inquiry "to deny my
political foes the opportunity
to exploit" the incident.
Police opened their in-
vestigation two months ago
at the request of Attorney
General Yosef Harish, in the
wake of findings by State
Comptroller Miriam Ben-
Porat.

The former health min-
ister said that at the time he
had urged hospitals to buy
Israeli-made equipment, as
long as it was up to interna-
tional standards. But he said
he had not even been aware
of Mr. Cohen-Orgad's stake
in Microshev.
The manufacturer served
briefly as minister of finance
during the 1980s.

Mr. Olmert's name has
been mentioned as a leading
Likud candidate for the
mayoralty of Jerusalem
when Teddy Kollek steps
down at the end of next year.`_ -

Meanwhile, official
sources this week confirmed
that the attorney general
has formally asked Swiss
banking authorities to coop-
erate in Israeli inquiries
connected with Interior Min-
ister Arye Deri.
