tory), but Sharon Anne
Schaffer is all romance
when it comes to her mate.
"It was love at first sight,"
she says about the day she

met Stephen Schaffer. "It
still is."
A resident of Bloomfield
Hills, Mrs. Schaffer was
born in Chicago. At 27, she
met her future husband, a
New Yorker raised in the
optical business. The two
lived for some time in Flori-
da, then came in 1972 to

For years, Mrs. Schaffer
spent virtually every mo-
ment working with Stephen
to build up the Eyeglass
Factory, which today com-
prises 52 stores in Michigan
and Ohio. It was only after
she suffered a heart attack
in 1985 that she slowed

down, working part time.
Mrs. Schaffer's office is
modest, with two file cabi-
nets at the side, some let-
ters and photos taped on
the wall. With her compa-
ny's commitment to quali-
ty eye wear at a discount
price, an unpretentious of-
