American Potters
Swidler Gallery will present
the work of American potters
---, Byron Temple and Chris
Staley through Dec. 31. Both
artists produce simple forms
whose economy of expression
extends a merging of function
and visual empathy. Also
featured are the quiet and
;=., playful utilitarian pottery of
Carol Roorbach and Annette
Siffin.
Studio potter Byron Temple
attended Ball State Universi-
ty and apprenticed with Bar-
nard Leach. His pots "strive
for purity and precision in ob-
jects that extol virtues of har-
mony and proportion."
Chris Staley studied at Wit-
tenberg University, Kansas
City Art Institute and Alfred
University. Mr. Staley creates
pottery that expresses the
2 fluidity of clay while having
a clarity of form and
ergonomics.
Carol Roorbach and An-
nette Shiffin both attended
Alfred University. Both ar-
tists balance a purity of form
and surface with playful
stances.
Swidler Gallery is located
at 308 West Fourth Street in
the Washington Plaza in
downtown Royal Oak. Gallery
hours are Tuesday through
Saturday 11-5 p.m., Thursday
until 8 p.m. For information,
