"The legislature is equal-
ly guilty of playing God, and
I don't want to play God.
This is an example of the
government clearly inter-
fering where it does not be-
long."
A year ago, when the is-
sue came to the legislature,
Sen. Honigman requested
that a commission study as-
sisted-suicide to help de-
velop guidelines.
That commission soon
will be under way, and the
recently passed bill, pend-

for a constitutional battle.
Any law preventing a per-
son from individual rights
and liberties is clear-
ly unconstitutional, Mr.
Schwartz said.
"The issue here is free-
dom of choice to determine
one's own destiny," Mr.
Schwartz said. "Jack Ke-
vorkian should not be the
issue."
Dr. Kevorkian's actions
have thrust Mr. Fieger to
center stage. But he is out
of the country, leaving pub-
lic relations duties to his
partner, Mr. Schwartz, an
attorney who is not new to
controversy.
