The Jewish Federation
and JHA have been work-
ing closely to resolve long-
standing problems at the
facility. In August, JHA
hired Markey Butler, an
Ann Arbor consultant who
specializes in correcting
health violations, to serve
as acting Borman adminis-
trator.
"We have made signifi-
cant improvement through
the very hard work and
commitment of the staff
and management team,"
Ms. Butler said. "We still
have a lot of work to do."
A committee has begun
structuring an interim op-
erations team, which will
be charged with developing
a management system for
Borman. Ms. Butler will
continue overseeing Bor-
man's management during
the interim.
"I am happy that this is
over," said Julius Barr,
whose mother, Ida Barr, is
a Borman Hall resident. "I
had a feeling it would pass.
I don't know where we
would have put my-
mother."

tion will come from the
community reserve fund,
which is believed to hold
about $80 million.
"This is a major piece of
money and it will deplete
the reserve, but it will not
seriously endanger this
community," said Robert
Aronson, Federation exec-
utive vice president and
board member of the
Foundation, which holds
endowment and property
for the Federation.
Faye Goldstein, Borman
Hall Resident Council pres-
had no idea what she
would do if Borman closed.
She likes the Jewish am-
biance. She said she had
nowhere else to go.
"I feel wonderful," Mrs.
Goldstein said. "I have
great hopes that the other
things will be corrected, and
I am sure the other resi-
dents will be excited about
it, too."
Meanwhile, the options
committee is expected to re-
lease ideas for JHA's future
by the end of next month.
Slated for discussion are
plans to move to a new
state-of-the-art nursing
home facility at the Maple-_i
Drake Jewish Community -
Campus, caring for Jewish
elderly on a contract basis,
defining Sinai Hospital's
role in caring for the aged,
purchasing an existing
nursing facility or finding-
an outside operator. ❑

Los Angeles (JTA) — Israel
and Jewish groups around
the world have called on
Sweden to bar entry into the
country of delegates to a
"world anti-Zionist con-
ference" scheduled to be
held in Stockholm this
weekend.
Stockholm Jews have al-
ready linked the desecration
of their cemetery this week
to the conference, which is
being organized by a
Stockholm-based Islamic
broadcaster.
"With the explosion of neo-
Nazi violence across the Eu-
ropean continent, such a
gathering will only add fuel
to the fires of bigotry in your
country," Rabbi Abraham
Cooper, of the Simon
Wiesenthal Center in Los

Angeles, said in a letter to
the Swedish ambassador to
the United States.
In a telephone interview,c,
Rabbi Cooper noted a
"special irony" in bringing
together neo-Nazis and
Moslems at an anti-Israel
conference in the wake of the
killing of three Turkish
Moslems in Germany this,;
week by right-wing ex-
tremists.
The daubing of swastikas
on 52 Jewish graves in
Stockholm lent added
weight to his plea.
The European Jewish,
Congress, an affiliate of the
World Jewish Congress, has
requested its represent-
atives throughout Europe to
call on the Swedish ambas-
sadors in their countries.
