ONION-APPLE TART
1 pound frozen bread
dough
4 tablespoons margarine
2 tablespoons vegetable
oil
3 Granny Smith apples,
peeled, cored and cut
in 1-inch pieces
2 green onions (scal-
lions), cut in 2-inch
lengths
1/4 cup apple juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
pinch white pepper
2 red apples, unpeeled,
cored and thinly
sliced
1 tablespoon sugar mixed
with 1 teaspoon cin-
namon
3 tablespoons margarine
Thaw bread dough accord
ing to package directions.
Heat 4 tablespoons margarine
and oil in medium pan. Add
Granny Smith apples, scab
lions, apple juice, salt and
pepper. Simmer, uncovered,
for 45 minutes, stirring often,
or until apples are soft and
liquid is absorbed. Cool slight-
ly and puree in food proces-
sor.
Preheat oven to 375F. Roll
thawed bread dough intoL
rectangle, about 12 by 9-inch-
es, and fit into baking dish of
same size. Spread apple pure
evenly over dough. Arrange
sliced apples and onion over.
Sprinkle with cinnamon sug-
ar mixture and dot with mar
garine. Bake in preheated
oven about 45 minutes or un-
til crust is golden brown and
apples are soft.
