Soviet Central Asian repub-
lic.
If these reports are accu-
rate, he warned, Iran could
develop a delivery system for
those warheads within a
year.
"This is not a benign coun-
try," he said. "Iranian heg-
emony in the region is very
dangerous for Israel. New
acquisitions by Iran and
other nations in the region
represent a continuing ero-
sion of Israel's qualitative
edge (in armaments)." JIN-
SA is urging the incoming
administration to tighten
rules governing technology
transfers, and to reassess
policies for supplying new
weapons to Arab states. Mr.
Neumann also urged federal
officials to pressure other
countries to shun profitable
— but inflammatory — arms
sales to Arab nations. ❑

Is Installed
Prague (JTA) — Rabbi
Efraim Karol Sidon, rabbi of
Prague since Rosh
Hashanah, was installed
this week as chief rabbi of
the Czech republic.
As the only rabbi in the
republic, he takes over the
spiritual leadership of nine
surviving Jewish com-
munities in Bohemia and
Moravia.
The Nov. 9 installation
ceremony in the Jewish
town hall of Prague was
preceded by a morning ser-
vice at the Altneuschul syn-
agogue, the foundation of
which dates back to the 13th
century.
The installation was at-
tended by Czech government
representatives, priests from
eight churches, the ambas-
sadors of Israel, Poland,
Austria and Germany and
diplomats from the United
States and other countries.
