Hosts Quartet

The Music Study Club of
Metropolitan Detroit will
host the St. Lawrence String
Quartet at its Annual Artist
Concert 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at
Berkley High School.
The St. Lawrence String
Quartet, Geoff Nuttal and
Barry Shiffman, violinists;
Lesley Robertson, violist; and
Marina Hoover, cellist; was
formed in the fall of 1989 in
Toronto. They will perform
string quartets by Mozart and
Beethoven as well as Yid-
dishbbuk: Inscriptions for
String Quartet by Osvaldo
Golijuv, a work which the
Quartet introduced this sum-
mer at the Tanglewood Festi-
val of Contemporary Music.

Archives Plan
Mailbox Auction

The Archives of American
Art/Smithsonian Institution
sent mailboxes to 100 na-
tionally recognized artists, ar-
chitects and designers. Their
assignment was to turn them
into works of art. The results
will be auctioned 6 p.m. Nov.
19 as a fund-raising benefit
for the continuing work of the
Archives of American Art at
the Galleria Officentre.
A. Alfred Taubman is the
honorary chairman of the
event. Cele and Martin Lan-
day and Joyce and Dr. Myron
LaBan are the benefit co-
chairpersons. The auction
will be hosted by Forbes-
Cohen/Nemer Associates and
will be conducted by
Sotheby's senior vice presi-
dent, Robert C. Woolley.
The mailboxes will be on
display in the Galleria atrium
from Nov. 5 until the auction.
Gallery hours will be Mon.-
Sat. 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
The auction admission
charge includes a catalogue.
